Issues with 5th/6th gear (and 1st/2nd)

Hey all, is this gearbox problem still an issue for all i30n or is it currently with the hatch and no present in the fastback?

Should be present in all, same gearbox/engine combo.

My car has it and is in dealership getting fixed, MY19 car, built in March but purchased 3 months ago New.

I can't understand why some cars have it and not others, my car is exactly the same age as yours and the gearbox is fantastically smooth in all gears, you would think if there was a fundamental fault all cars would be affected.

Yeah I know right... If all of them had it, there would have been a recall issued by now. It makes it all the more annoying when you try to explain it to someone.

My car is a early i30N. No issues with gearbox. Dealer would not do the fix, unless they could replicate the problem with 5/6 gear.

Yes I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, mind you I had to have my brake vacuum pump replaced at 1600 miles so I haven't got off scot free.

I had a 2017 model and it had the issue which was resolved by a gear box synchro change. I now have a 2019 model and I have had no problems at all. In my experiance the issue has been resolved with newer models.

In fairness I think quite a few folks have debunked that thinking in this thread.

My i30N Fastback is a Jan 19 build and it has the issue.

Same here, my car is built end of 18 and according to VIN it shouldnt have the 5th/6th gear issue. Had it in for the oil change today and told the dealer that 6th gear sometimes doesnt engage properly (5th is fine though). They were able to replicate the issue and told me I should make a new appointment to have it fixed.

I had my 5th and 6th synchro replaced and picked the car up today, can confirm 6th gear goes in perfectly smooth now.

Let's hope that's the last of the troubles.

Nope, there is sadly other issues now but it was the last straw for me, so N will be going back as soon as I can formally complete my rejection :)

I'm a bit late to N ownership so I'm not sure what all your troubles have been, as I said my vacuum pump for the brakes had to be replaced at 1,600 miles, hopefully that's it, sorry to hear you have had so many troubles on one car, what are you thinking of replacing it with? I had a 308 gti it was trouble free in the 3 years I had it and if I'm being honest the fuel consumption was a lot better than the N for very similar performance. A two year old one can be picked up for less than £18,000.

Most of my earlier issues are outlined in my build thread (signature below) however my most recent ones which lead to my rejection can be seen here: https://n-cars.net/forums/threads/3500-miles-in-gear-2-4-and-6-got-stiffer.4374/page-4#post-71368

As for what's next, I don't know mate. Porsche/BMW route probably, was thinking M2 Competition or Cayman S as I am getting a bit bored of the Hot Hatch market and want a sports car again (I've had 4 hot hatches in a row now and miss my previous M3 lol)

Only time will tell. I hope your car stays trouble free!

Hi all,
Does anyone in Sydney Australia have this issue with their car, and if so ,what dealership did you deal with to resolve this ?
Thanks all

Interestingly the character of my geabox has changed significantly over time. I've done about 7500 miles now and my issues with 5th and 6th have reduced to the point where they are now the easiest gears to engage.

I have a bigger problem with 2nd until the gearbox had fully come up to temperature after around 20 miles or so.
