Tuning i20N Engine & ECU Tuning Discussion

NO, I get it mate. You want it to be as you think it is. NOT as it is.

It's like you commenting to; SXTH ELEMENT cracked open an i20N ECU. First off, Hyundai doesn't sell the i20N in the US. They have no reason to (logically speaking) because they can't get an i20N to dyno or test on. SXTH ELEMENT is a US company only. They develop aftermarket parts for domestic US market, because they have access to them. They do not develop and supply parts ot tunes for the rest of the world. Nor are they a licensed to do so. 😉

I get it mate, really well!

I own a VN and have since it inception. I like talking and sharing anything about the N-Performance cars in general and offer all sorts of information available to everyone. I'm an enthusiast!

Maybe you need to wait until you have actual hands on an i20N before becoming an expert? In your mind, I may be wasting your time but I share what I know with everyone regardless of which N-Performance model they own and drive.

Your commentary has gone beyond productive, to ad hominem and circular. Next up is abusive, which is where you're now headed. So, we're done!🤣👍🇺🇸

You really are being childish. See below.

Which vehicle and ECU?

My reply. "Hyundai i20N in Australia. I'm not sure which ECU it has but it's the 1.6T with the new CVVD[variable dwell] valve train."

We are working on this ECU for a mid to late 2023 release.

It went on from there and he was good enough to let me know what they have done and where they are at. Including current dyno figures and that they haven't been able to get rid of the rev hang which is peculiar to the i20N I believe.
Childish🤣🫵. See I told you it was moving to personal insults from the other thread.

No, I’m just being factual, honest and thorough. Who did you speak to mate? Post the Dyno of the stealth i20N they provided you ?

I already told you; Hyundai doesn’t sell i20N in the US. SXTH ELEMENT is a small company and doesn’t have the resources to import an i20N, let alone able to get an i20N into the US, that doesn’t meet the mandatory safety and emission requirements. 🫵🇺🇸

I have merely passed on what I have been told by SXTH Element when I contacted them with the details of the car I have on order. I was quite explicate as you can see in the other post on the CVVD thread.

The only abuse that I have seen is in your sarcastic denial that I have been told by SXTH Element they are working on the i20N engine and that they cut open the ECU as the first step to unlock it's contents.

I noticed in the past you were exactly the same with another poster who tried to keep the conversation civil.

I have the email thread and have no intention of giving the name of the person on a public forum without their approval.

Grow up.

Grow up?🤣

How does anything in the past here, involve you? You’re not keeping it civil. You’re the one posting the commentary above ^ .

Post the dynamometer sheet mate of the phantom i20N and the person you spoke to? They use their names openly and regularly, for their business on social media, thru emails and in person. So, you’re not protecting anyone, except yourself.

Frankly, you’re trying to justify the hominem commentary and that’s alright mate. I’ve seen the same thing here and on other forums, time and time again. You’re backing yourself into a corner mate. No need!

I knew from the beginning you weren’t going to provide the name. Why, you’d know I“d follow up with them directly. Doesn’t matter mate, I can ask them in passing on social media, or email hem and they’ll say up front. One of them, is a member here as well.😲🫵

You’ll notice, I didn’t give you their names either.😉

Have fun and please let us know when you eventually get your i20N. Nuff said!👍🇺🇸

Hopefully everyone reading this thread will be relieved that we will be getting this tune next year as mentioned. I did ask Nathan if I could post that confirmation that they are indeed tuning the i20N engine and he was happy for me to pass it on.

The only part missing is the CVVD which still hasn't been addressed, perhaps because it's new and difficult to work with initially but for now i'm just happy to have this alternative to the current piggy backs. I've used Open Flash before and this seems to be similar. That was easy to work with and gave good results, in fact the best bang for my money without a doubt after lots of mods.

I was relieved to be able to post that just to clear up all the accusations and to be able to move on with some civility and respect, hopefully.

Moving on, I can't wait for this to come to market. Hopefully it will offer stages to cater for exhausts and intakes. Talking about exhausts I watched this video this morning and was impressed. At first a 3" seemed over the top but it sounds good, reuses the stock valve and gave a very decent torque boost[+17%] without a tune, showing how restrictive it is from the cat back. Better still they're making an Australian version where we don't get the GPF.

It's looking like some good gains are on the horizon.

Perfect match.
Are you the owner of the European i20N he mentioned or is the ECU out for another reason?

It makes it so much easier with the same ECU and helps spread the goodness further.

SXTH Element Engineering have cracked the i20N ECU and are currently developing engine tunes for release next year. I asked them about rev hang and this was the response.

"The rev hang is part of two systems; one is emissions related and the other is part of a transient response system (pseudo air injection anti-lag) for the turbocharger.
We will not modify emissions systems as it is illegal in the United States to do so. Our tuning is designed with EPA and CARB compliance in mind."

So it's not a heavy flywheel and I assume, can be tuned out. Hopefully a patch might be available for circuit use?

If you’re wanting to have your i20N tuned correctly in the UK, this is where you need to go;
