I20N Condensation Issues

Hello fellow N enthusiasts

It’s cooled down a bit here in Aus and I’ve noticed an annoying trend with my reverse camera
There is a condensation build up inside the camera housing, producing a visible haze when viewing from inside the cabin.
It does dry out eventually, but quickly returns the next day during this current climate

Has anyone else experienced this?

I made a brief comment about it at the 10K service (it was warmer weather, it seemed to only happen sporadically in the morning), though I put words in the technicians mouth by say ‘is this normal,’ the answer was ‘yes’

On top of this, I recently noticed further condensation in the passenger side headlight, though I can’t tell if it’s truely inside the unit or it’s a cover (similar to the rear lights)

I’ve got about a month to go before my 20K service, so I’ll bring it up with the service department then

I tried adding the headlight image, but the limitations on file sizing here is a punish (cropping for days..)

The whole rear unit gets condensation no fix for it as of yet

I haven’t found ‘condensation’ as such in the whole rear unit
I did refer to it, but I don’t see it as the same issue (Headlight image attached)
The rear unit design is weird, it seems water can flow through areas where looks like it shouldn’t
The issue to me is a separate piece, the camera and the headlight

*UPDATE*
Hyundai approved the reverse camera replacement request

Headlight request was rejected
Hyundai advised that if the headlight is switched on for 45mins, and the condensation dissipates, it is considered normal and not required to be repaired/replaced

I have a suspicion this was rejected on the basis the repair/replacement is estimated at a cost of $10,000 (I'm serious, $10K wtf)

Not satisfied with the outcome, but it's on file now for when it becomes a bigger issue

*UPDATE*
The reverse camera has been replaced.
This is an image after a 30 minute drive home
A bit of a shame, and I’m confused how it’s only just me, but I’ve done all I can..

hola n´s

Ya he leido en algunos foros que es un problema muy conocido en todos los i20 la creacion de humedad en la linea roja del maletero. Alguien sabe como quitar esa humedad, o si tienen alguna solucion? Se puede sustituir por algún tipo de LED?.

Gracias. Saludos.

MOD TRANSLATION:

hello n´s

I have already read in some forums that the creation of moisture in the red line of the trunk is a well-known problem in all i20s. Does anyone know how to remove that moisture, or if they have a solution? Can it be replaced by some kind of LED?

Thanks. Greetings.

I really hope there is a worldwide recall coming for this, surely it's a design issue effecting every i20 model from base to N?

Park it in the sun! :)

thanks for answering. What a pity this great car has these defects. Let's see what Hyundai does with this issue.

I think I have read somewhere in this forum that in Australia a company outside of Hyundai is marketing an LED lamp that solves the problem.

Lets wait and see what happens.

I've only washed mine twice so far and only noticed a little bit that soon disappeared once I dried the car!

Presumably there is some way of programming this light as to what to do. I’m not sure how easy it would be to wire to the indicators either as the only wiring in the boot lid is to the stop light and it only seems to have a three core cable (could be two). If it goes through this light show every time you hit the brake it will cause chaos. The Alieexpress explanation could do with a bit more detail.

I seriously doubt there will be any sort of recall for this - particularly as it’s actually been intentionally designed not to be a sealed unit. Whether that was a good design decision is another matter, but given that it’s just a bit of decorative trim I predict (with some confidence) that nothing will be done. I would also point out that this is far from the only car (not by Hyundai) that has very similar issues.

Hello, thanks for answering. Well, if Hyundai doesn't take it back, Ali is going to make a lot of money with this invention.

I imagine that like many other inventions of this type made in China, it will have some kind of remote controller or configurator to control.

The connection is something that Ali should improve or explain in more detail.

That said, if someone tries it and reads this, help with their experience.

Thanks.

I wouldn’t actually guarantee that the AliExpress item doesn’t let water in as I've used LED arrays that entirely waterproof on their own. The cost of it isn’t that high but I would need more details before I was prepared to buy one.

To be honest, it would be less trouble to remove the standard item and make it waterproof. If it is the ends that are open then they could just be sealed with a small amount of silicone sealant. I’ll have a look tomorrow but it may not even be necessary to remove it.

just use a car dryer or leaf blower to try the red line and then it's not a problem!

Of course I spend €28,000 on a new car to have to dry it with a leaf blower. What all owners of the i20-i20N should do is file a lawsuit against hyundia and the problem is over.

I have noticed it but it doesn't seem to be a problem as it dries out very quickly, my only concern is that it might get dirt in there over time which would look rather unsightly. In that case I hope it can be taken apart for cleaning.

I've noticed that in the reflective panel on the back of my I20N, a lot of condensation will build up and it seems impossible to remove/prevent it.

Is anyone else having this issue?
