Engine How To: Remove sound generator

Thanks for this guide, when my N arrives it will be the first thing I do.
Since I see you like making guides, you might make one in the future on how to permanently disable s/s

I've just removed the sound generator and I have to say, I wish I removed it ages ago.
I managed to unplug it without removing the wiper blades which was handy.
One slight mishap though, while fitting the 4 trim clips one of the middle pieces fell through the housing and down into the engine bay and is now lost forever. Anyone happen to know if these specific clips are readily available on eBay or the likes?

Thanks to all who posted this information, I recently did this modification, can't say that I noticed any difference to the sound but that's OK, there seems to be no downside to removing the ESG and if nothing else it adds a little bit of lightness to the car, not much I know but even 220 grams is OK. The only thing I wasn't keen on was taping up the connector, I tried to buy another plug to seal it, Jaycar sell something similar but it doesn't fit so I took a mould off the ESG and resin cast a blanking plug, 3D printing would be the 21st century way of doing it but I do a lot of resin casting so it was easy for me. Easier still would be to cut the wires and seal the ends but I'm big on keeping the car as original as possible and I want any modifications to be completely reversible. I made a couple of spares if anyone wants one.IMG_5256.JPGIMG_5258.JPGIMG_5260.JPG

I'm asking me, if anyone followed the wires from the ESG toward the fuse box and figured out which wires are for the ESG. I think it would be the best solution to have a little switch in the wiring, so one can turn the ESG on and off which would be the noninvasiveliest way to deal with it...

just remove the fuse

It's not difficult to remove the cowl. The only hard part is getting the wiper arms off. As a bonus you can do the windscreen rattle fix while the cowl is off.

Has anyone asked the Hyundai service dept if they can turn off the sound generator using the software?

Nissan turned it off for my 370Z very easily so it could be an option.

For anyone without the heated seats it's a no brainer to just pull out that fuse and leave the thing where it is for the next owner.

What I didn't see mentioned was there's a fuse pulling tool in the lid of the underbonnet fuse box. They are tight, so best to use that than risk damaging it with long nose plyers.

The difference in sound was profound and I don't know how anyone can say it doesn't make much difference? Now it's quiet and that's in N custom which it's always in. I miss having some sound but I don't miss that particular sound, even if it is better than the 370Z effort. I'm craving a full turbo back exhaust and an intake to generate some real sound and give the top end a kick in the pants by maintaining the boost.

Hi all. I just got my new N a week ago and I have only had one decent drive so far.
I expected to love the noise in N mode but I found it pretty horrible after only a few minutes.
I will try it in N1 or N2 with the exhaust knocked back one notch.
I presume this won't give the same result as killing the ESG?
Any knowledge gratefully received!
Cheers

you can remove the fuse to turn off the esg, if the noise you're hearing is a high pitched whine noise it's the esg

I ended up putting the fuse back in for some more noise and drive in N mode with the exhaust wide open all the time.

To me it's just right and i've no intention of touching the exhaust anymore.

Another factor to consider is that the rear muffler has been found to be very restrictive, causing 3-4psi[?] back pressure, which is the reason replacing it gives such a big increase in torque. That strongly suggests that having the flap wide open is less restrictive and gives the most power.
