Engine How To: Remove sound generator

Slipped my hand into the KonaN today and disconnected that same plug. Sorted - No more rattle in N mode and a drone free cabin. Seems to be an issue on every N model ...

Glad you've managed to sort it and sure you very happy with the difference but really.......3RD post in the same day in different threads 🙄 on the same thing?!

Please don't turn into 'that guy' 👍

I can't get my windscreen wipers off, so I can remove the windscreen cowl and get to the sound generator - anyone know the best removal tool for the job? Thanks

I removed my plug by poking a thin allen key (can use screwdriver, etc) through 1 of the holes in the cowling vent above the plug and managed to lift the tab and slide the plug out in a matter of seconds.
I decided several weeks later to wrap the end of the plug so it's watertight (probably doesn't need doing) so bought 2 different "windscreen wiper removal tools" off ebay for when i had time to do it properly.
I removed the 4 fixing clips and the rubber seal and noticed the plug was almost touching the front of the cowling and so lifted the front of the panel just enough to get my fingers in to pull the plug out far enough to wrap

£10 wasted on the removal tools as i didn't need them but saved 1/2 hour without having to remove the wipers and panel 👍

Put them in the upright position, turn ignition on then off and within a few seconds push down on the wiper switch, the arms will go vertical, then wiggle them off from there, you can apply a lot more leverage, especially if you alternate by hingeing them out, wiggle hard then back straight and wiggle. They will come off.

So I gave it a try, it worked pretty well. The change isn't huge but I didn't expect it to be.

Unfortunately it say passenger and rear seat warmers but its the drivers side as well...
Car didn't like it for the first little bit, exhaust valve wouldn't open but after like 30s it worked out what was wrong and just disabled the bits it needed and let the rest of the car work.

Hi,

What do you mean by "Car didn't like it for the first little bit, exhaust valve wouldn't open but after like 30s it worked out what was wrong and just disabled the bits it needed and let the rest of the car work."? It was an issue that happened just by removing the ESG fuse or you did anything else that caused your issue?

The car just didn't seem happy for a few minutes was all. That was the only thing I had done and I'm not sure why it did it but it resolved itself afterwards

To be honest I'd much sooner just take the windscreen cowl off and disconnect the ESG and two cable ties and plastic bags over the connectionsAny special reason for that?
You are only doing this as a test to see if it resolves the noise, not a permanent fix.
Is there an issue if I do it as permanent fix? Note that the only thing I want to do is to turn off ESG.

That fuse does a bit more than the ESG and seats I think. Look in your owners manual.
For me at least on a UK spec it's seat heaters and ESG.

I've just taken mine out again now it's getting warmer and it is a little more noticeable again now. Exhaust just sounds clearer to me, but it's not huge.

In Portugal we dont have heated seats, so I might try remove it because it is way easier than the other method. And regarding the exhaust I just want to turn that fake shit off. :)

Same thing for the Italian version of the car, it doesn't have heated seats. I've had the fuse removed for about a month now, no problems yet. As Abyss03 said, the difference is not massive but the sound is clearer and less annoying in N mode.
