How-To: Adjust gear change cables correctly

Is there a youtube video how to adjust gear shift cables?
I referred to
just to visually get an idea of how to do things

You don't need to take out out the center console. Once you have the shift gaiter (?) out you can pull out the front section (with the USB ports and wireless charger) and set it aside

I just did it and it took me about 2hrs as I was messing around trying to find a hex key that fit inside the holes in the shifter. I also thought i messed up and couldn't shift into 2nd but it turns out I was trying to shift into R2

The only other experience I have working on my car is installing a Forge Intake and a GFB BOV

Overall it wasn't too difficult, just take your time and don't try to force/rush things

Thanks man!
How is the shifting feel now?
Do you think its worth it

I was mainly having troubles with 1st and 2nd where it would take a bit of force to get into gear

After the gear cable adjustment, 1st and 2nd feel much better to get into gear. There are still times when the last 10-20% of 1st needs a bit of force but that doesn't bother me too much

I think it also fixed the issue where the car would try to rev match as I was shifting from 1st to 2nd, which was very annoying

Overall, it was definitely worth it for me but I think the next time I need to adjust the gear cables I'll upgrade the bushings

Drove the car again today and the hard shifting issue has come back again

Anyone have any other ideas before I send it to Hyundai?

I often experience that the car doesn't shift smoothly, and I feel like I'm hitting something when I want to shift, instead of a smooth transition to the next gear. I only have this issue when upshifting; when downshifting, I don't really have any problems. It's as if the car doesn't click into gear but is being blocked.

Changed the gear oil to Redline MT-LV And the differences are definitely noticeable.

Hey guys, I have a question. What if I ask my friend to hold the gear stick at 4th gear and not move, so then I do not need to deal with the all the inside work?

The whole point of the job is to accurately set the gear lever into the 4th gear position. To do that you MUST use the locking tools on the base of the lever. It's not hard, takes a few minutes to expose the necessary area. Either do it correctly or don't bother at all.

Got it. Thanks for the advice~

I have 110k KM on my car, first time replaced gearbox oil with red line and did this procedure....I can't describe the difference. It's like completely different car. Thanks for this guide!

Also I was able to do it without removing battery undertray. Unless you have really big hands, it should be easily doable, there was plenty of space. One more note for people doing it in future, make sure that pink clip goes all the way out. Mine was stuck in the middle and I had to wiggle and pull from the other side to get it completely out (it still stayed in, but it was difference between 3mm and 7mm maybe). Took me maybe 15 minutes, the worst part is that stupid battery blanket. That's so annoying to put back.
