Do you reckon for a first time manual driver it’ll be fine to drive the i30N?? Or should I maybe go for a couple lessons in another car or what do you guys suggest??

To be fair i've driven manual all my life since i got my driver's license and the car still stalled twice when i test drove it, when i received it later on it happened once or twice, now doesnt happen anymore. So my suggestion yes atleast get some practise 👍

Even though you have your license I would suggest that you take a couple of lessons from a driving school that have manual cars at least that way you’ll get the feel for the clutch gearshift coordination that you will need for driving a manual, like Peter P have only driven manual cars and have still stalled the N a few times

i reckon we are in the exact same boat. i had never driven a manual until maybe 6 weeks ago, i love driving and wanted to learn for quite a while but those lessons can be so expensive! i ended up looking at a VW GTI or the i30n and loved the N but i couldnt drive manual. I got some lessons with a good instructor and it was definitely worth it, i would recommend doing it as if i had no lessons i would not be able to drive the car

I'd never driven manual before purchasing mine, I just watched this video carefully
I didn't stall at all on my first drive home (but then I stalled plenty in the first two weeks!)

Lessons are the way to go. Take it easy for some time or I suspect you will end up in trouble.

that’s sick! Once you get the hang of it lemme know how long it took you. I’m still a bit 50/50 because of the manual issue, but apparently a DCT is in the works so maybe I should wait until then??

For sure ill keep you posted, I had some good runs but that clutch kept getting me. Once I get the hang of that should be alright. First time wasn't sure what to expect really!

Wait not, my friend - take the plunge and you shall be rewarded in the long run. Bit of advice for you and @BoyRacerN - this car has an anti-stall feature. Until you get used to it, and when moving off from a stand-still, just let the clutch out with no gas pedal at all. Not too slow, not too fast - just fully ease off it with a little bit of intent. It will not stall. Then get on the gas once you're moving with clutch out.

I moved through bumper-to-bumper traffic for at least 2km after a traffic accident up ahead without touching the gas pedal once - just clutch out, crawl, clutch in and brake when it backed up again. Repeat. Soon as you touch the gas without clutch fully clamped on the flywheel the deal is off and you're on your own. And that, gents, you will only get with experience. Enjoy!

Thanks for that tip, when I just let the clutch out I was generally pretty good but when j tried to add gas when at the lights to go a bit faster that's when i stalled! Yeah i just need to get used to and I'll be right

Just go to a deserted car park one night. Or even just your own driveway. Practice feeling the friction point of the clutch. You should be able to get into second (ie clutch fully out in first then change to second) without using the accelerator - when you can, you’re doing okay.

You will get there. You’ll get to the point where you can “snap” the clutch out to the friction point without thinking :)

wait this is an anti-stall feature? I thought all manuals did this?

Hahahahaha, you made my day. And no, I’m not a Boomer :)

I wish it could be turned off - quite capable of getting the car moving myself thanks!
I thought letting the clutch out slowly after connecting would get any car moving?? That's not an anti stall feauture is it? Or am I misinformed
