Exhaust- / Sound Discussion

It won't make much difference actually at start-up as the valve is cycled through open / close every time anyway. That makes sure that the valve doesn't get clogged up for those who always drive with it closed (or, I guess, in the same position). The double tap on the flag button is complete before the valve cycle is done. Removing the valve is an option, locking it in one position might mean that it gets stuck there.

It might be that if this cycle is not completed (how would that be detected?) then a fault is generated.
There is no faultcode / error while disconnecting the valve. That's what I've done long time ago to take a look @normal / Eco with a loud exhaust. But it feels a bit like losing some power while the valve is unplugged..

So just drove home and gave it a fair bit of ‘oomph’ where I could. The n mode setting is definitely different to normal (always has been) and is throatier as @Maverick has suggested. There are pops and bangs ect, but only over 4.5k. There are no power off burbles at all but there are power off pops and bangs but again, only over 5k. Today I had my setting on full n mode. Normally I have it on n custom (with the only single difference between the two being suspension setting). The exhaust seemed a bit more willing today than other times (but I don’t see how n v n custom would make a difference) the pops and crackles are sufficiently loud enough for me but it’s the background rev-up and lack of burbling which is disappointing me. Although n is more active than normal, it really doesn’t produce the full throaty roar, burbles and gurgling of other Ns.

My fuel economy to achieve this on the drive home today was 14.5 l/100km which is also disappointing and another issue altogether.

It means precisely that. I only drive my car in n mode. There is no point in shelling out that much cash and not having it on full bore at all times (or at least, that’s how I feel).
Then why the trouble of modifying the exhaust to be always open when you drive the car only in N or N Custom? Isn't that a bit pointless?

What you're essentially looking for is a way to make the car always start in N mode (or even better in last saved state), that would solve all your problems, right?

I also think removing the valve entirely would free up what little resistance might be remaining with it in the open mode. Might make bugger all difference but it might also make a small increase in noise.

For me the point is exactly the opposite ;) To have a car I can modify it's behaviour depending on what I want from it. And that capability is partially what we pay for ;) No point in shelling out that much cash on adjustable components and then cutting them out to have the full bore only at all times ;) (that's just my point of view) ;)

N custom is great because the cars the n gets compared to (e.g. golf, civic, ect) only have pre packaged settings. The ability to modify things like suspension while keeping other things on max is the real selling point, and it is something that I use too.

ok, that sounds similar to mine (maybe a touch higher on the revs) but I get burbling. In all honesty, I think Hyundai will say everything is working ok, and mechanically speaking it sounds like it is.

Going to ask something dumb, but did you have the windows open? Also, what’s the ambient temp? I find in cold weather it’s much more chatty, same with other cars and other people here have said the same.

I agree with you that Hyundai will say there is nothing wrong, because, mechanically there isn’t. And it does perform really well.

I also agree that on cold mornings (sub 10C) it sounds louder but we don’t get too many of them here in Adelaide.

Windows are always open weather permitting, and were this afternoon on the drive home with ambient temp at 20C.

Noise is louder with windows open but putting that down to previously mentioned confirmed failure of ESG.

Hi Forum,

Has anyone had any experience with;

1. Deleting the Resonator along the i30N Peformance Australian Spec and have comment to make? (Chasing purely sound increase not here to argue on power)
2. Had a 200 cell (highest free flow Catalyic Converter in QLD, Australia) Catalyic Converter installed? (I am told it will put a check engine light on)

Just querying to see if anyone has touched the stock exhaust - Which sounds amazing as standard in my opinion.

Cheers,

Simmo

@Albert Beer-man hm. I wonder if the differences with mine are possibly an ambient temp thing, as it’s much colder here. Trying to think how it was the few days where it was warm this year!

It’s a pain though and it’s annoying it’s ruining it a bit for you :(

To be honest I found the sounds to be louder at colder temperatures but that could just be because it's only cold in the mornings when things are quiet for me!

I leave for work around 15-20 degrees Celsius @6am and cruise home in 35-40 degrees Celsius around 3pm and the car is probably louder in the morning but the amount of crackles, pops and burgles are consistent at both times.

Hope this helps, just my experience :D
