Exhaust- / Sound Discussion

Yup, and it's not the case with me, but if you'd like to start the car in loud mode every time, it takes more effort than just the double tap on mode selector, you'd need to double tap the start/stop button without clutch to turn the system on, then go into N/N custom, and finally start the engine... That's some significant frustrating delay to taking off...
It won't make much difference actually at start-up as the valve is cycled through open / close every time anyway. That makes sure that the valve doesn't get clogged up for those who always drive with it closed (or, I guess, in the same position). The double tap on the flag button is complete before the valve cycle is done. Removing the valve is an option, locking it in one position might mean that it gets stuck there.

It might be that if this cycle is not completed (how would that be detected?) then a fault is generated.

What was your exhaust sound like before the change? did it make a massive difference? or was your exhaust already loud and willing to talk?
No - before that it was banging only over 4000rpm and poping very quiet lower rpm-s.

About three months after I bought mine I went back to collect a PB paint repair stick, the technician told me that most of the i30n is still hand built and there can be slight variations between power output and noise. They reckoned their new demo, an 18-plate, was way louder than mine, a 67-plate.

So who knows!

"For those who always drive with it closed"...

Those aren't my type of people :p BORING!

Also second @Mightymoo - All those settings combined = best exhaust noise!

I know @Bill Thomas said no changes to the exhaust etc. however this noise relies on the ECU setup probably more than the exhaust hardware. Manufacturers are always making revisions to ECU software in an attempt to improve this or stop that from happening. Without insulting @Bill Thomas these "minor" tweaks to the software may not be fully disclosed to all Hyundai staff as most would be inconsequential anyway. While not intended a side effect could be reduced noise.
We would need the software version numbers of some cars that "pop and bang" well and compare them to a vehicle that does not make the appropriate noises expected. If the version numbers are the same then this issue may be driver input instead. Or some as yet undetermined cause.
Just putting this out there.

If your theory is correct, then we may well start noticing some exhaust changes with the next batch of car services where they will update the EUC as well.

Speculations and theories aside, the facts so far are that apart from the thread starter that doesn't have the car yet and started this thread on rumors with a rather absolute title, there are two with no apparent evidence that seem to have a car that doesn't go pop pop bang while all other people state the opposite, interesting.

I am one of those two, and have a confirmed failure of the ESG which is being investigated by Hyundai. I do not purport to know how much of an influence that has on both actual and perceived noise.

@Albert Beer-man does your exhaust sound different, louder, throatier when you're in N mode? The valve is visible in the exhaust tip, in N mode it should be open, in normal mode closed, you could see for yourself. The difference in sound and loudness should be pretty obvious. If not then I guess there's a problem somewhere, but that has nothing to do with it being a newer model. Mine and many other MY19s sound exactly like in the video, and that one is a MY18.

@Dariofil that was posted 8 posts ago.

It is nice to see that there are people who doesn´t need to think about neighbours because with open valve, cold start is LOUD ;)
Only because of that I was forced to install resonator to my car (I have custom made exhaust).
If you will disconnect plug from butterfly valve, be sure that it is fully open, otherwise you will have weird noise on full throttle.
