Exhaust- / Sound Discussion

For me, I can make it bang every time just by flooring it in 2nd. Either let off at high revs or shift up and it'll bang. Try that ... It's fun even if it doesn't bang :)
It's not as predictable in higher gears.

Weirdly, since I fitted the DTUK box the bang bang bang M16 sound has turned into just one big BANG. Must be the map change somehow altering the effect.
My car's only done 1600miles and was registered around the start of October, so fairly sure it's got the new filter.

I’m going to try a few things today, I also only get bangs in N mode, please tell me that’s normal??

Mine doesn't pop until well into the high revs, shift lights showing. It was delivered July this year, on 1400 miles.
I feel I have to push it quite hard to get any noise and only on upshifts. I run it on 95ron, not sure 97 or above would make a difference. I get a lot of over-run rumbles/gurgles which I love.
All this in N-custom mode, suspension in normal. No pops in Normal mode, not tried sport mode yet.

Yeh it’s weird how some can get pops and bangs so easy and others have to smash it to get anything? Surely this is something that can be rectified? it was a big selling point for this car yet I’m struggling to get them, don’t get me wrong tho it still sounds great, but I want more, tried last nite in sport mode but got nothing, only seems to do it in N mode..

Mine is a 68 plate so gpf fitted and mines as loud as f@$k, though sometimes I seem to get louder bangs when not trying hard throttle. The other day I pulled out of the garage with a little throttle to join traffic at speed and I got one single crack and it was so loud even made jump never mind everyone else on the street.

Mine does it when the shift light comes on. Can do it on demand in N mode, very easy on changing down. But I can easily rattle through the gear box and get 3 bangs until I change into 5th. Sport mode doesn’t do it on mine I don’t think, but I don’t use it very often.

Hmm! Interesting I can easily get 3 pops in second and third with only moderate throttle when the exhaust is nice and warm

@Safcwarrior in sport mode?

Mine has to be warm, N mode, but it’ll do that fairly easily. After about 5mins if driving I head on to a dual carriageway, and get three out of each gear change until I get to 5th. But I’m giving it some welly. Quick wind down after work and before I sit in traffic for an hour o_O

I sorry read it that you can’t get 3 pops until you get to 5th my bad it’s been a long day

Maybe it’s normal then too only pop when shift lights are on at 5k? Maybe I’m just greedy? lol, But some are getting cracks at 4k, that’s what I want! I do have to say tho, my exhaust definitely sounds a bit louder than when I first got it, so I’m hoping the pops improve..

@N-Raged mine will do it before 5k, I think it loosens up over time (I’ve just done 10k miles).

Our other car on test drive popped and crackled, ours never has, not once! But it burbles much more nicely. Swings and roundabouts!

There’s a multi-storey car park where I live and for fun I like to stalk around it in 1st at low revs blasting up the ramps and getting a couple of pops at the top before a slow stalk to the next ramp :D

I do it at work, it sounds ace  I do enjoy the grumpy stare of old academics as I come into the car park. Golf R man gets it, he thinks it’s funny!

Mine is a lease car so I have been using Vortex 98 petrol from 0km - 2200km if that helps.

I will try to remember and take a video of a tunnel run for you to compare the noises at 4k, 5k and 6k rpm. I can't really control the amount the amount of pops you get but certainly the volume ;)

Understand your frustration @N-Raged I would be asking the same questions if mine didn't pop under 5krpm. I get the noises on gear changes 1 - 4 and haven't really heard it on 5 or 6 as the tyre noise usually takes over at that speed :p

That’s what I’m hoping for right now, still haven’t had my first service yet, over time it might loosen up more..

I’m not asking for much, I want them at 4K that’s all, hope this hasn’t got to do with the EU emissions thing..

Im the same N-Raged. I dont get pops unless Im giving it the beans and over 5k. Usually only on the first to second change and nothing afterwards. Im pretty underwhelmed.

A little disappointing to hear another person not getting the famous noise!

I just got back from an after dinner hoon - I can 100% confirm that as soon as you hit 4k rpm in my Australian release i30N performance you get that distinct 3 pop/crackle sounds. It is extremely loud if you give it some up until 4k and then release the throttle or upshift.

I thought the car was little quiet UNTIL I stood outside the car and had a friend take it up the road... You really don't hear how loud it is within the cabin :D
