I have an annoying rattle from the passenger front door panel, if i pull the door towards me when driving it quietens so i'm guessing the panel is catching on something behind?

I've just ordered some sound deadening (foam) to stick to the back of the door panel to cushion it from what's behind and also some deadening pads to stick to the metal door skin while the panel is off.

Has anyone else done something similar and did it cure it?

Does anyone have any instructions for removing the panel and any photos of what's behind so i'm prepared?

Thanks

I’ve removed the inner panel a number of times to work on the audio and it’s actually amazingly easy. First thing you have to do is to remove the tweeter sail panel. This is just clipped into place. Use a plastic pry bar to gently easy it off in a number of places and it will just pop off. The wire for the tweeter has a connector that can be unclipped. If you then look at the centre of the door trim, just below the handle, you will see a small square panel that can be popped open with a small screwdriver. Behind that is a posidrive screw and this is all that holds the door panel in place - other than a bunch of clips. So undo that screw and then gently pull the panel away from the door to release the clips - now lift it up and off to clear the top of the door - unclip the internal wiring and the door handle linkage. It’s actually rather nicely made.

Thanks YNWaN - sure i'd seen a video a while back but couldn't see anything on youtube - will have a go at the weekend weather permitting 👍

I didn’t follow a YouTube video as it was so easy - but it would be the same as a standard i20 bc3.

Exactly the same, i have some sort of ticking noise like a cable rattling against something inside. Let me know how you get on. I have ordered some VW sound deadener.

I did Some more work on my audio system today and that involved removing the door panel so I thought I would update my ‘how to‘ as it’s fresh in my mind. As I said before, in the centre of the door card, just below the door pull, there is a small square plastic hatch. Use a small flat blade screwdriver to pop this out (very easy to do). Behind that is a posidrive headed screw - undo that. They use a wide plastic pry bar and insert it at the bottom of the card and gently twist. The fixings will gradually pop away from the door as you work around to the window. Then the card will simply lift off as it’s just hanging from a lip at the window. When you reinstall it you start by hanging the door card on the ledge at the window. Present the card at a steep angle (about 45 degrees) to initially locate it and then clip it back into place. No clips will need replacing and it’s a smooth and easy process. Put the screw back in and close the covering hatch.

One thing that’s very good for stopping rattles is the fabric tape you can get and this is often used in automotive electrical looks. It’s good for all hard edges though.

Hi
I managed to remove the panel and put the foam sound deadening behind at the weekend. It seems to have cured the rattle i had but i now have a slight creak :( and can now hear rattles from everywhere else in the car................... cheap plastics :(

I 100% recommend disconnecting the ESG as I'd say 85% of the rattles at higher revs went away after I did this

the suspension will exacerbate vibrations felt within the cabin so if you have stuff in your door bins or glove box, they'll be bound to contribute to the sound. also if you hear anything from the back make sure your rear seats are slammed shut as they can rattle if the latch is loose. there's also a little plastic thing that protects the "SOS" button next to the cabin lights on the roof. apparently that can loosen over time so make sure that's not loose

i've been in the car 2 years now and rattles have only really been noticable if I drive in silence. then again, sometimes you just want to hear the exhaust which is fair

Did that the day i bought the car 👍
I also put a bit of velcro behind the cover on the windscreen at the same time. The rattles sound to be plastic so it could be every panel need sound deadening behind  - guess i'll turn the stereo up a bit more
