Brakes Brake Upgrade Discussion (Discs / Pads / ... )

Saw a post on Instagram of a company upgrading the brakes on the i30n using oem calipers so got in contact
Floating front discs 3kg lighter per piece
Bigger rear discs using oem calliper and extended bracket
£700 per pair....£1400 a set
More stuff coming in the pipeline too

I was looking at the discs there and just sent an email. Seems I don’t need to. £700 for something I’ll never notice the benefits of on the road or on the handful of track days I will do a year... I’d rather buy decent pads, lines and fluid!

The front and rear brakes are perfectly adequate on this car... Unless your looking at using it solely for track day events...

With the standard power the brakes are well up to the job - they had so much bite lap after lap and I only got mild fade after loads of fast laps on a very hot track day and they were fine after cooling. I did get the fluid changed at the 1st service (rather than the recommended 2nd) but the health check revealed 'green' for the condition of the pads and discs so they are clearly upgraded to handle heavy use (10,000 miles ad 3 track days for me) without significant wear. Very impressed.

Im waiting only one thing - someone else (Pagid pads will cost a fortune) will start to produce racing brake pads for our cars. I have lines replaced but brake feel is not as it should be on our technical track.

Pad upgrade and maybe lines are the only things I’ll do to the brakes!

I’ve got a spare set of standard pads sitting here to fit soon!

I'm planning to take my car to the track for the first time. How are the brakes holding up for you guys who have been on the track? Do I need to change pads, fluids and lines? I've seen so many glowing reviews on the N braking performance that it's fine but I also been told I should change pads at least.

What are your experiences?

I was out in 32 degree heats at knockhill and 3-4 laps was the limit but one or two cool down laps they came back on for 3-4 laps. I wasn’t really being good to them I was there to do a job haha!

That sounds promising. Looking forward to giving it a go. Has anyone else have any pad upgrade? If so, has it helped?

I found them just fine at Castle Combe the other day (probably around 20 degrees ambient), they took 15-minute sessions no problem, was able to modulate the braking up to the point of locking in all places. I'd say they've given it some pretty good pads as standard

I'd agree, did Knockhill in April in pretty good temperatures and they are good for several hard laps before going a little soft. I reckon pads are good and would like to compare with quality fluid and reinforced brake lines.

I've found the brakes to be brilliant on track and they only started to fade after I got carried away at Anglesey and stayed out for over 20 minutes in 30 degree heat - after cooling them they were fine and stayed fine all day at Snetterton a few weeks later.
A couple of people actually drove my car on track, one has 8 pot K-Sports on his 430HP Subaru and he commented how good the brakes are on the N.
Also, just had the car serviced after 10,000 miles and 3 track days and the condition of the pads are still in the green which amazed me. The fluid was changed but that must be uprated high temp stuff to keep working so well after that many miles and track days,

I can back up this statement, here is my 8 pot K-sports lol

Went to the track yesterday for the first time. Day was around 23 degrees celsius with 3 sessions of 10 mins. Brakes held up fine! Didn't experience any fading. I deflated the tyres to 35/32 but once after a few laps, the pressure was reading mid 40s at the front and started sliding around a bit. I think next time I'll deflate to 32 all around.

Steering Rack changed uner warranty. But this hasn't changed my issue.

Its not until car gets warm that it makes the noise which is a creaking sound through the steering which can only be heared at low speed and when you go over uneven road or speed bumps. Can be heared when turning in to drive way.

Hyundai Dealer said it been a fault on all i30Ns which I can't really see as it would have been mentioned on here by now.

Track rod end. ??? Does the car drift on a straight?

Had a sticky ball joint on a rod end before...

Caused the steering shaft to hummm..

Greased the ball nipple and all better...:oops::oops:
