^Well, sort of. The ECM manages load based on various torque limiters, as well as limits output based on fluid (including air) temperatures and barometric pressure (approximates elevation) measurements.

There are base maps and optimum maps for certain variables (mainly load and timing). If limiter thresholds aren’t crossed and fluid temperatures don’t induce output reductions, the ECM will attempt to achieve optimum values.

The MAP sensor, located on top of the IM is what measures IATs. So, while higher IATs pre-compressor do negatively affect compressor efficiency slightly, the air still has to go all the way through the charge system (including intercooler) before the IAT is even measured by the MAP sensor probe, inside the IM.

I spent whole weekend in garage for making heat sield for my open cone ram intake. I inspect all areas under air filter box to find out the best possible solution for cold air feed and I discovered that it is better to not use BMC OTA type sealed box filters. There is a space behind front bumper but again - not much air coming thru bumper grille. Design of left front bumper grille is pretty bad and it must be moddified to fit some sort of cold air feed pipe there:

There is another problem too - there is not space enough to bring normal size flexible air feed pipe up to the intake hole of carbon box air filter. 58mm pipe is biggest you will be able to get thru from that hole:

So I found out that the best way to get lots of cold air, will be using 3D printed snorkel, OEM feed pipe from radiator frame to air box and build a custom heat shield:

Nice video. It is what I am currently making with my intake too. Just VN looks littlebit different behind front bumper and there is not much space for flexible pipe. I will take my cold air feed from oem induction pipe + 3D printed snokel and result is the same.
For those guys who are thinking about power gains with open airbox ild or giving more air to filter and gain lots of power:

Now, that Pipercross intake looks like it’s been well developed. I’m going to start saving.

I'm holding out to see what Ramair come up with, they generally do something similar but a bit cheaper.
This Pipercross one is tempting though, especially after hearing the noise it makes!

Aftermarket parts for the I30N are simply always going to be at the costly end, because it isn’t as popular as Fiesta’s/Golf’s etc.

I would say that this logic is pretty simple to
understand personally, but maybe that’s just me.
