https://n-cars.net/forums/threads/engine-oil-discussion.1055/post-54441Guys do you use your own oil for changes? If yes do you have any suggestions for the best suitable oil? And also Ive been studying a little the ACEA regulations and from the numbers point of view there is a minimal difference between ACEA C2 and C3, however C2 is supposed to save more fuel. Any experience with that? Thanks
Yeah I was just curious if the difference is marginal... Also seems to me that if you want to follow Hyundais requirements and secure the longest possible life of you engine then C3 is best option...@FleRrSss I wouldn't bother with better fuel economy. For a sporty motor you want the best protection.

Wouldn't use it in this engine. It's good oil but not for this engine.Greetings to all from Russia
No one thought about the problem of LSPI? It seems to me that on our engines it is necessary to use oil with a low calcium content, but there is practically no such oil in the ACEA C2 certifications recommended by the manufacturer. There is a good mobil1 x1 5w30 oil, but it is certified by ACEA A5. Do you think it is possible to fill AСEA A5 in our engines instead of AСEA C2? Although certification is different, this oil contains little ash, about 0.84 and has little calcium in its composition.
OK, why? The HTHS in the ACEA A5 and ACEA C2 classifications is almost the same, i.e. engine damage should not be.Wouldn't use it in this engine. It's good oil but not for this engine
If it is a warranty , how can they prove that I was pouring the wrong oil?
I can fill in their recommended oil during routine maintenance, get a print in a book, and then go to my service and immediately change to another![]()
By the way, I want to note that cars are sold in Russia under the Euro-5 standard, while in Europe - with Euro-6.That would be fraud. However, it might be hard to prove that for hyundai (or any car manufacturer at all).
In general, the basic difference between ACEA A and C oils is that C oils are intended for use with catalytic converters (which our cars have) and without offense but I suppose the guys over at hyundai N spent some more time thinking about which oil is appropriate than you did. If you want to move away from manufacturer suggestions then I would go for a different viscosities (which also might depend on where exactly you live) but stick with C2 or higher.
Of course, I understand all this, that if they suddenly find out something, it will be only my problems.Still its cheating on the warranty terms. If you're fine with that go for it, I wont be coming over to russia to stop you. Just be aware of the fact that Hyundai might check everything they can if they have a weird feeling about your car in case of a warrany claim (or maybe even if they dont) and if they find anything you can only blame yourself.
Brand matters not (as long as it is a reputable one), as long as the classification meets or exceeds manufacturer's recommendations you're fine.Hi All
It seems Hyundai recommends Shell Helix C2 0W-30 oil for the car. Sticker under bonnet has sticker saying A3 ???
When asked a local dealer said they don't use Shell Oil but use another manufacturer with same 0W-30 properties.
Don't manufacturers of cars develop engines with certain oils for a reason? My understanding is that all oils can be different blends with similar but not the same properties as other oils by other manufacturers having the same C2 or 0W-30. Why do manufacturers develop oils if they are "the same" ?
What oil do you all use???
I noticed something interesting when checking my engine oil a couple weeks back... Its very dirty, considering Hyundai changed it less than 1000 miles ago. I wonder if they didn't actually change it at all...
Did you have the filter changed also?I noticed something interesting when checking my engine oil a couple weeks back... Its very dirty, considering Hyundai changed it less than 1000 miles ago. I wonder if they didn't actually change it at all...
