Issues with 5th/6th gear (and 1st/2nd)

I've been to the dealer last week. They looked at it, told me they are aware of the issue but told me it would be normal that 5th and 6th are a little hard to get into. I agreed with them to wait till my first oil change at 10.000 km. If I still feel like it's wonky they'll change it.

Don´t know. They had all parts before my appointment.
Wanted them to fix the sqeeking noise while steering and the headunit rattle too.

Hope they will call me on monday. I miss the beast.
I got mine back yesterday and had some weird steering noise that wasn't there before. don't know if yours is the same but tyres got deflated and getting pressure to the required levels resolved it.

The noise I got is like rubber on metal and seems to be temperature related.
If it's more than 5 degree outside it's gone.

Seems like a tight fight on some part. Mechanic couldn't find anything that looked suspicious so I'll see what happens after the summer.

Hi all - just had my first service (~7500 miles) and reported the 6th gear issue. They test drove it and said it needed to be booked in again to fix. I'm fine with this but was surprised to hear that they wanted to strip the gearbox beforehand 'to diagnose' before ordering parts? Sounds like BS to me.... If there's a known issue and it's flagged, surely that prompts them ordering parts *before* the car arrives with them? I'm happy for them to have the car for a couple of days, not a couple of weeks or months!! Does anyone have the UK specific TSB number at all? Also, does anyone know if this will become a recall like the fuel pump??

not really, my process was exactly the same. they stripped it apart, looked at which parts were needed and then ordered them. Because I also had another part almost worn out, it took ages to get it repaired. in the end ended up with a new gearbox. otherwise, they would've returned it in less than 2 weeks.
page 4 should have more info about TSB

I had the same issues with 1st to 2nd gear and also 5th to 6th. And also some rattling noise, which sounded like a 10 year old flywheel. My car (built in December 18 with 3000km on) is at the garage right now and they ordered a new gearbox + flywheel. Does anybody know about reworked parts? Because I really don't want the same issues with the new parts again.

Hi all.

New here so go easy. Picked up my new i30n performance last week. I’m now up to 500 miles and have had a few issues with 5th and 6th not engaging properly. I’ve had to have a couple of goes to slot it in. Reading this thread I thought new cars had this issue resolved but maybe not?

I was going to give it a fair few more miles yet to see if it improves but if not then will be off to dealer.

I'm not convinced the gearbox is as slick as it could be. I think even those boxes not suffering with the weak synchros are still a little notchy and require quite a lot of force, maybe not the finest piece of design. As you said, give it a few more miles and see how it is.

Mine is not notchy and does not require force. However, 5th and 6th do not line up perfectly, I notice it on downshifts.

Hi Guys
My car is in for the first service. I placed this issue with a few other. Will see, what the dealer will do, after some testdrives.
I have the problem from 1 to 2, from 5 to 6 and almost each time i need the reverse

Just got back from check-up. Needs a replacement of the gearbox, in warranty. I guess you can all expect a recall soon.
Do you have a screen about your change? From the papers, my dealer says they are not heared about TSB or anything in europe (Lol...) so i need to be take them some photos about these problems from other I30N-s to investigate this in myne. Or anybody whi have papers, numbers please write it.

my dealer drove the car for test. he found nothing necessary with the gearbox and nothing with the headlinimg rattle.
3 guys was driving my car, and not one was able to hear the headlining rattle

Had issues with my alarm so got that repaired and mentioned 5th/6th gears so they look at those and order the parts.
Took it in on Wed and was told 2/3 days - they wanted me to pay for a courtesy car!
Got a call saying they needed to change syncos as well but part on back order - they cannot tell me when they will be in stock - so without my car for hopefully not too long.
Very disappointed with the dealer.

Was also disappointed with the way my dealer acted during my alarm repair. No sense that they care in the slightest about customers once you have given the the money to buy the car in the first place. I even mentioned something to the manager because employees were just walking past a phone that was ringing for 20 minutes because it "wasn't their department". Pretty pathetic, but best of luck getting your issue resolved in a speedy fashion.

I might be in the minority here but I've had none of the issues people describe in this thread, my gear box feels smooth as, no problems at all changing between 5th and 6th..

Not all people have this issue :D so it's normal that you dont have it and you're better off not having it, if i could choose i would choose a car without the issue :p

Since my problem after the swap of the synchros and gears started again occasionally
Do you know if they replaced the parts with some upgraded/revised parts, or did they remove the old shonky parts and replace with the same (but new) shonky parts?
