Exhaust- / Sound Discussion

The problem here is the availability and the distance to travel for 99ron for a lot of people. So, as far as I know, it’s only Tesco and Shell that have 99ron. They are not local to me.

I have BP Ultimate and ESSO which are both 97ron I think. Also have super unleaded from Co-op and Sainsburys that are really convenient

I’ve used the Co-ops fuel for probably 90% of all fill ups with this car and it is simply due to convenience (and no problems that I can tell). However, IF I had a Tesco or a Shell local I’d be using them 100% of the time....

You are 100% correct in fact 10 years I had my skyline and the nearest 98 Ron was 4 miles out of my way and the it ran a custom ECU with no option for 95 Ron back then. Now modern cars can run as low 89 Ron without issue (USA) I belive our N will run day in and day out on 95 without issue....

Costco also do 99 Ron and its quite a bit cheaper but You have to be a member, card payment only and they don't take credit cards for fuel, My previous Cupra was designed for 98 or above and yes You could tell the difference, in the N not so much so, but it does last longer and I prefer the better engine protection it offers, rump steak or economy burgers anyone ?

I have used both 95 and 98, bangs great on both.

Last 4 months I have only used Premium 98 from Esso. Tons of bangs over 4-5k rpm.

Is it not 97ron from ESSO? I was convinced that’s what it said on the pump when I filled up. yesterday....maybe they have different types of super unleaded?

I always fill OMV MaxxMotion 100 Octane petrol so i wouldnt know, if it actually influences the sound coming from the exhaust. But I can produce different pops and bang on demand basicaly, around 4.5-4.6k revs it's the double bang, around 5k revs it's the triple AK sound, above that the ka-pa-papapow and sometimes on upshifts or when front wheels spins u get the loud BRUPP single bang. I hope anyone understands my explanation :D:p

P.S. when the oil is colder it's harder to produce bangs, im talking about when the engine is warmed up and so is the oil, from 4-4.4k revs u have the muffled bangs aswell, it does make a sound but not quite as much.

I have a friend who works in an aftermarkt workshop and he tells me one time he sel one of this exhaust system. A few days after de customer come back again and says "its too much for an daily drive".

I don't know if it's true or not. Some one know something about it?

Forgive my ignorance but what impact does the oil have for exhaust note?
I should have expressed myself better, i look at the oil temp to know when the engine is fully warmed, and as soon as it's near the middle it produces best pops and bangs.

It can still pop and bang even when the oil is cold, but it's will be a bit reluctant to do so and ofc it's not very safe to rev it up before it loses all the orange dots on the rev counter aswell, rings dont like cold and high revs in the long run :p

I was wondering I know that the i30N performance has the active exhaust but can anyone confirm that the regular non-performance i30N doesn't have the same exhaust but without the electric valve control? I know that it's wishful thinking but thought I'd ask the question.

Many thanks.

The standard 250N has an exhaust that still pops/bangs and has the same great sound to it, just without the electronic settings.

I remember seeing somewhere that it's always on the loudest setting as opposed to the Performance that is quieter until the setting is exhaust + or whatever it is, or at least, I think i read that somewhere

I am guessing you have exhaust exiting both tailpipes. If the muffler is the same as the performance model but without the flap valve then you are effectively in the loudest exhaust setting all the time. Sport +.
There may be some ECU configuration to cut the pops and bangs a little but it does not sound like this is detracting from the experience.:p

Only had 98 in my N since I took delivery. Pops and bangs are there at WOT anything above 4k.. I don't have anything to compare it too as I don't use fuel with less rating than 98 unless I absolutely have too.

It was actually only yesterday I changed at 4.5K RPM in 2nd gear and I swear when I say this but I've never heard a louder gunshot from any stock car. The AMG A45's have a nice loud noise on the upshift but this sounded like a straight up gunshot which I heard echo off the house to the left and right of me.

Which brings me onto the next concern. There is absolutely no way that this car would pass a noise emission test in Australia in N mode. I owned a stock VE SS with an exhaust that was COMPLETELY silent. That exhaust got a 91db on an exhaust sound test which is the maximum threshold of an exhaust. This car is EASILY 3x louder than my VE SS.

I can almost guarantee as time progresses we will hear a few stories of N drivers not being able to pass emission testing.

Noise is personal opinion but I honestly think the stock system sounds better.

The Remus exhaust brings out the 4 cylinder noise a little too much imo. Is there official word that Hyundai have accepted this ?
