Windscreen replacement

Hi all,

Possibly not posting this in the correct place so please move if necessary.

I have a large-ish crack in my windscreen, noticed after I'd been for a decent drive today to visit family. It wasn't there when I set off, or when I filled up with fuel, but I noticed it when I picked my Dad up (naturally, I'm blaming him for it :D).

So, anyone had their screen replaced and anything I should look out for/request? I did find a thread relating to the i30N plus a near 3 year old i20 thread but neither were too helpful. My insurance excess is £180 for a full replacement if I use their recommended supplier or a contribution of £125 if I go off-piste.

The screen replacement itself doesn't overly bother me but there's a lot of gubbins stuck to the screen that any of my previous cars weren't modern enough to have been equipped with so I have no idea if these are likely to cause any issues. One of the threads mentions calibration, but another comment says this isn't necessary??

As always, thanks in advance for any gratefully received comments 👍.

OK, so I now have the car booked in to have the windscreen replaced - Thursday 18th June so not too bad a wait. Its a while-u-wait service and should take approx. 2hrs.

The safety/auto gubbins on the inside DOES have to be recalibrated but this can done by the fitter and is (apparently) a quick and easy process. They will then test everything with me present to be sure all is working as it should (no idea how they test the auto-braking function though 🤷‍♂️).

I'll keep this thread updated as I go along, it might prove useful to someone else in the future.

My I30N is going in on Wednesday for a new screen due to a lengthening crack. I'm told they'll need it for about 1.5 hrs as they definitely need to recalibrate the safety systems then take it for a short drive to check LKA is working OK. I paid £75 access and will check they're going to fit a OEM replacement that is solar glass. I'll report back when done.
