Which drive mode do you use mainly?

What are the perfect driving mode settings for British Roads and why (both for everyday driving and attacking some B roads)?

From reviews, so far the most mentioned combo in N custom is "everything on max, apart from Steering and Suspenion on Normal". Is that still the case?

It would be nice to find out what each setting actually does, for example why does rev matching has a few levels? Surely it's either on or off? Any input on the above will be greatly appreciated.

Also some nice to haves in the future revision of the N would be:

- Remember what mode the car is in after shutting it off. Literally the first thing I used to do is slap it in Custom and then turn off Auto Stop/Start. Don't understand why it's so difficult to remember this (perhaps we can code it in?)
- A second custom mode. So you can set one up for when you want to be a bit childish and set another for eco driving. Because let's be honest the eco mode sucks.

Personally my N Custom settings:

Rev Matching = Normal (anything higher and you sound like a twat who can't change gear and a bit too "try hard").

Suspension = Sport (I find it actually rides better.....yes I'm weird like that)

ESC = Sport (again I find the car better to drive, it doesn't bog down and allows a bit of fun)

Everything else is on max settings.

Start/Stop does not offend me in the slightest, if i don't want it on for a particular situation then I just have one button to press to switch it off, simples!

I also always drive off in Normal mode from a cold start as the car is less jumpy. Then its straight into N Custom for all roads.

I wouldn't mind the exhaust mode on a seperate button tbh so N Custom can be used all the time and just kill the volume with a button press if required.

With the options currently available I find myself switching between normal and N custom most of the time. Normal has the smooth throttle response, softest suspension and calm rev matching for slow/medium speed downshifts 1 gear at a time (though i hit the esc button to switch it to sport). I use this mode for the first and last parts of my drive and any cruising time during.

My Custom raises the suspension/lsd/esc to sport, exhaust/engine/revmatch to sport+. Yes the aggressive revmatch sounds obnoxious but it's much quicker getting to rpm when driving more aggressively. I don't use this mode when driving through town, etc.

Steering I think I would prefer something between normal and sport, I find myself going back and forth, but think I have settled on normal as the other settings don't really seem of benefit.

Auto Stop/Start is an emissions setting and so would not be allowed to be turned off by default.

That is understandable, but at least the Mode should be remembered. I remember in my E46 M3 days you could use an app called Carly with an OBD reader and code a few bits on the car with your phone. Changing it so it remembered Sport mode and traction control settings was one of the most popular things to do, along with making all the windows go up and down via remote.

I wonder if we can do the same to the N, perhaps time will tell as more people get their hands on them.

So Rev Matching essentially increases the RPM it revs to depending on the setting (higher being more aggressive) ? Good to know.

So if I was to make a custom eco mode (in my N Custom) for my daily commute, I'd have everything on Normal bar TSC which I'd want to Sport and exhaust on the loudest mode too, that should be the same as Normal but louder right?

And then for hitting B roads, all on max apart from Steering/Suspension I think would suit me best. That said, seeing as the car is a MY20 and comes with a tad softer suspension, I wonder if Sport+ will now be usable on british roads...

I haven't tested it but normal rev match probably will rev just as high, it just will probably take twice as long to get to the rpm. Sport+ is a much more aggressive/quicker throttle blip.

Dont think you can have eco in custom might be wrong , when u getting the new one ? Ive been switching from normal to custom and N missus said she needs a sports bra for N mode lol

Well in Custom you can change all the settings down to the point where it's your own version of "eco mode" ?

I was meant to get it this week, but sounds like it might be next week, car is not delivered at the new car depot yet :(

Mine took a while longer but worth the wait been driving a skoda fabia vrs great fun and simple , this is a massive update for me ipad on the dash modes etc
Dont think you can put the engine or exhaust in eco mode in custom mode only normal. Theres a chart in the manual cant attach atm file to big !

Therein lies one of the problems, there is only one custom mode, so you can concoct your own compromise. It would be a massive improvement if there were 2 available.
Well to me normal is default atm had to drive the skoda earlier lol custom am liking normal sub and steering although wish there was a lighter wheel on normal and i quite likeesc off and no rev matching , the grt thing is you can change on the move 2nd custom would be good

You've got 2 custom seat memories, should have 2 custom n modes to match depending on which seat memory button is used.

Sport+ suspension is still pogo stick firm on UK roads. A track instructor told me Nurburgring is normal damping mode for best performance. He doesn't like sport+ rev matching on the road either it's too aggressive in it's rate of increase so unless you are changing super fast, like a track session, the revs are dropping off before you select the gear fully but that's the beauty of custom mode try it and see.
If you'd bought a new Focus ST or CTR you are stuck with the engineers settings.

Here's my 2 cents worth, (or 2 pence, krona, forint, etc).

Throttle response: Sport+ even though Eco mode will give you the same response if you press your right foot hard enough.

Rev Matching: Normal. Get's the job done, without appearing to be a boy racer.

eLSD: Sport. Why not? It's there if you want it, and Normal mode doesn't make the car any"nicer" to drive.

Exhaust: Sport+ if you want to make a fast getaway and you want to be noticed. If you want to make a fast getaway in stealth mode, use Eco. Same acceleration if you plant your foot, but sooo quiet.

Suspension: Normal mode for everyday driving, unless you are a masochist.

Steering weight: Sport+ on any road. This is because my other car is a Lotus Elise with non-assisted steering. So direct and communicative, and Sport + is as close as I can get to this.

ESC: Normal for daily driving on suburban roads. In Sport, and even more so, in Off mode, the car basically says to you "If you stuff up, you fix it".

It's very rare that I'm out of N Custom mode myself.

Was surprised to read on the UK Facebook group that a lot of people didn't use N or Custom that often!

So just wondered what you guys used?
