Engine Spark plugs

Thank you so much @R Veloster N ;)

That’s a lot of effort and time you’ve put in there and I am genuinely thankful you’ve done that. I’ve got a plan to change (upgrade) the spark plugs, change to Michelin PS4’s and change to the purple Lower Torque mount bushes (Powerflex) in March (2 year service time). I think this will bring about a tangible change and improvement to the overall driving experience on the road.

To be fair, the rear tires may still have decent life in them at that point (circa 20k miles) but I’m keen to try all 4 PS4’s for the milder weather.

Cheers again mate

since I never updated, I'll just say that R2556G-9 gapped to 0.024" are working perfectly with JB4's map2 (increased boost)

I did have to close the gap on all of them to get to 0.024"

This may be a dumb question but would like your guys input. Now that the weathers getting colder my hard starts are becoming more frequent and this morning I had to cycle the key 3x to get the engine to turn over. Would it be a good idea to swap my colder plugs back out for the factory ones ? And will I be okay still running map 2 Jb4 or should I just run map1 with the factory plugs

No, you risk pinging or detonation?

Is the VN parked inside or out? If inside, use an automatic battery charger.
No she’s outside only I don’t own a garage or have a outlet close to my parking spot . And Ive had this problem before but never had to cycle the key 3x. Thought maybe the colder plugs had something to do with it but guess I’ll be calling the engineers again...

Chris, you're talking with regards to the Hyundai Engineers? If so you really can't go wrong there.

What low temps are you experiencing right now or when it's been tough to start? Might be a simply, as changing to an 0W30 weight oil for the winter.

One precautionary note; "do not use ether start for any reason."

Yessir it’s not the first time they’re looking at the car. Last time they did they said it may be leaky fuel injectors. And this has been an ongoing problem since I got the vehicle. So I doubt it’s oil related because I got her in January and the temps were much colder then. Temps at night are mid to high 30s and about 40° when I’m leaving for work in the morning. But battery was tested it’s good, grounds have been tested for resistance that was also fine and other than the hard starts she runs beautifully

You may be correct about the injectors. If the injectors are bleeding down, then it requires additional pressure to push the right amount of fuel thru the injector. This would account for having to crank over the motor more to pressurize the system.

I run HKS M45XL with 0.024 gap. I have a remap for 319ps and it works just perfect. Had them in with 0.027gap at first and it did not work at all. Now i have done 5000km from Sweden to Austria and now germany on my way home. The car preformes perfect in slow driving and in autobahn speeds. In Sweden i payed 95eur for 4 sparkplugs.
What gap would you recommend for running STOCK or STOCK + POWER BOX at 300PS/460NM?

Hi guys, I want to use HKS with stock engine 2.0T and civil driving (not always slow maybe ;)) Should i use M40XL with HR8? Or M45XL? Like You wrote, also with stock use 0,024 gap?

I use the HKS M45XL's. I have a piggyback Afe Scorcher tune but do not use it all the time. I keep the car in purple N mode most of the time and the car runs fine. I have my gaps at .025. I think you'll be fine.

Best regards,

-Mike

I believe work fine, but my dilemma is: if have stock car, what works with standard temperatures, better to use plug with oryginal heat range (8) or like with tuned engines (9). Too cold plug without tuning can do deposit with time.

I think our stock heat range is a 9. HKS M45XL's are a heat range 9 but don't foul out like stock plugs do. If it were me I'd just go with the 45's.

Br,

-Mike
