Hello QLD type N car owners and prospective owners.

Are any of you interested in getting together occasionally for a bit of a drink (coffee/softies/water) and drive day, and the odd track day?

I'm happy to organise the basics (route in SEQ and Northern NSW, in the North you'll have to decide the route, contacting places for cheap pie, chips and coke deals) and maybe try and get something like free helmet hire for track days, so if your interested let me know and I'll start getting it off the ground:)

I am a Queenslander based in that southern Hell called NSW, where they can’t play rugby league proper. Heh. I’ll come up there for a blast one day though, looking forward to reading the reports here.

I'll start looking for a group accommodation discount - I'll check pubs, clubs motels hotels and resorts, you never know we might save enough for a carton of beer and a pizza:)

Smokey, sort out my confusion please, guy or girl? Everything you have written on the forum tells me one thing, and your profile tells me something else....

I look forward to a day at Lakeside, Morgan Park, or even the paperclip. Happy to do midweek so we can have the track to ourselves possibly. Not particularly interested in 20 laps flat out, but I would certainly like to open the throttle to see what it will do.

Just need to get a set of 18"s with sticky tyres before I go, the 19's have so little sidewall, I will save them for the road. I am going to buy a set of these:

Good reviews for the very cheap price, and you can legally drive them to the track. All I need is the right wheels now, nice and light.

Perhaps I'm just in touch with my feminine side :)

(all sorted, I don't know why I was a girl in my profile, maybe the universe is trying to tell me something?)

I know, I know, everyone is still waiting for their car in Qld (except me and a couple of others), but I did email the guys at Morgan Park about an i30N track day.

The reply was:

Hi David,

It certainly is possible! Your cheapest option would be to pop in on one of our practice days (track days). We run them every second Wednesday (if we can, we usually only pop it on our website 2 weeks in advance as it’s run by volunteers). It’s $50 per person, runs from 9 til 12/1230/1 (depends on number of drivers). We run these days under CAMS, so all you need is a CAMS L2 licence. Our official for the day chooses groups based on who rocks up, and then lets them go around the track.

Otherwise, I have attached our price list for private track hire. Under private track hire, you will have to supply your own flaggies/officials/etc. We literally hand the track over to you (we also hand over the costs of a AASA or CAMS permit) for 8 hours. For 10 to 20 people, we would want 4 flaggies as a minimum.

I wish we could give you a more concrete time for when a Wednesday practice will be on in those months, but we deliberately only put them up a couple weeks in advance due to the mercurial nature of volunteers (and it’s not safe enough in our opinion without flaggies).

If you have any questions, feel free to send an email! I’ll be back in the office on Wednesday, otherwise Lyn will return any questions you have until then!

Thanks,

C.

I don't know if anyone knows about Morgan Park, but it is a pretty cool volunteer run track up near Warwick, about a 2 hour drive from Brisbane.

A Cams L2 license is application only (no tests or instruction), and costs $135.00 (for 12 months...)

Probably the best alternative is the Wednesday practice session for just $50.00. A private session is NOT cheap, we would need upwards of 20 participants to bring the cost close to $100 per person. Plus the cost of a AASA permit, and a CAMS bronze official needs to attend. (I am going to become a bronze circuit official soon, so that will be taken care of).

If I was going to go, I would definitely drive down to Warwick Tuesday night, have a steak in the Warwick pub, find a decent bed for the night, and be bright eyed and bushy tailed ready to go Wednesday morning. But early risers could certainly get there from Brisbane easily if they left at 6am. Just watch out for the coppers in Warwick, it has always been known as the speed camera capital of SE Qld.

Anyone interested????

I'm keen but its a 16 hour drive from me so I would need to pass. Damn this wide open and lovely land!
