Tyres Increasing tyre sidewall to 40 - implications.

No mate, 18 inch tyres will only go on 18 inch rims. Rollout is roughly the same between the tyres based on profile differences but it's the wheel (and therefore tyre) diameter that is the problem here.
Hello

Kind of thought that myself anyhow and got a result the guy at the local garage recommended 225/40/R19, he said that is the tyre they fit most often to my tyre size for a cross climate or a winter tyre and is the one they recommend.

Thank you for replying.

225/40 R19 is like losing 2,5% of engine torque compared to 235/35. If you can deal with that fact...;)

Yes I know, but when your driving on country wintry roads that extends for 15 miles off the main road that is not salted at an incline that most cars get trapped that are almost impossible to transverse with summer tyres. Too many times too often I had to get a pull out that takes time. I have suffered the humiliation of being stuck as the tyres just spinned and I was going no where fast until an incident last year where a car slid into my car causing quite substantial damage to the paint work all because I got stuck and was waiting on a pull out I could not move if I could have well I would have saved all that damage and annoyance.

So if it means losing 2.5% torque I can live with that for now and if it is too much for me I’ll have the M8 allow me to use their shop and swap the tyres back myself. I was intending on using two crossclimate winter tyres and just placing those on the front during the winter months and then back on the back axel during the summer. Anyway I’ll give it a whirl and if I don’t like that setup I can always change back and no harm done except it will save my bacon this winter as it is not long coming round every year and is a nightmare to drive in like one winter I could not even get up off the main road it was that slippery with summer tyres as the country road was in a bottle.
