How does “Solar control front windshield” work???

It is a reflective film build in the front windshield. Nothing noticeable. Should keep the cabin cooler in the summer ;)

Solar control glass is a hi-tech product developed by the glass industry to allow sunlight to pass through a window or façade while radiating and reflecting away a large degree of the sun's heat. The indoor space stays bright and much cooler than would be the case if normal glass were used.

At least that what Pilkingtons say.

In the N, it is fancy windscreen glass without tinting designed to keep the car cooler without reducing vision in and out.

Is that on the Sunroof as well?

I've already had to close the screen because it was 34 in the middle if the day and it was a little warm even with aircon.

No good reason to use this on the sunroof when it is equipped with a blind and it is heavily tinted also IMO. There would be a cost penalty too I would think. Have to draw a line somewhere unless you want the most expensive i30N in the world.:)

Sorry for the poor photo quality. This is my AUS spec screen on my car. Luxury pack includes "Solar Control Glass" I am guessing the logo on the bottom gives it away. Door glass is just tempered glass. No acoustic glass either.

The solar coated windshield absorbs the Sun's Infrared (IR) rays that cause excessive heat and brings down the interior temperature of the vehicle and increases cabin comfort. Auto glass specialists like Windshield experts in Noida, and other cities, always recommend solar control glass for your car windshield.

All windshields are made of laminated glass comprising of two glass sheets bonded together with a plastic interlayer. In a solar windshield this interlayer is replaced with a heat absorbing interlayer that prevents the transfer of heat. ... With a solar glass windshield, these concerns are taken care of automatically. forpc.onl jiofi.local.html

Solar control front windshields are typically built using laminated glass with an additional infrared and UV-filtering layer integrated into the glass itself. Instead of relying on a dark tint, the technology works by selectively blocking heat-producing wavelengths while still allowing most visible light to pass through. That’s why the windshield looks almost normal but performs differently under strong sunlight.

The main benefit is heat rejection. Sunlight contains visible light and infrared radiation; the infrared part is what raises cabin temperature quickly. Solar control glass reduces that heat load, so the interior warms up more slowly when parked and feels less harsh during long drives. UV protection is also a major factor, helping protect interior materials like dashboards and upholstery from fading over time.

This technology is often paired with advanced aftermarket film solutions that achieve similar results. A useful breakdown of how modern heat-rejection films work can be found through OC Tint Solutions(https://octintsolutions.com), where the focus is on balancing infrared rejection with clear visibility for daily driving conditions.

In real-world conditions, the difference becomes most noticeable during peak summer parking or slow traffic, where vehicles with solar control windshields stay more comfortable and require less air conditioning effort compared to standard glass.
