Exhaust- / Sound Discussion

WOW. The misinformation in this thread, or even better lack of information, is outstanding.
Do you even know what the 91dbB and 109dB values stand for?

It is the intensity of the exhaust sound of a vehicle which is stationary, a vehicle which is not moving. It is measured at 3750 RPM. And that's the 109dB value for MY18 and 91dB for MY19 respectively .

MY18:

MY19:

The driving/road noise of the car, is 72dB for MY18 and 71dB for MY19.

And no, 1dB difference is very hard for the human ear to detect, even for professionals in the music business.

Also, the human audio memory is so incredibly short, that there's no way someone will even notice the difference between the two cars while driving.

As of now there is zero evidence that supports that there is any difference between MY18 and MY19.

There is also a huge number or variables that make such comparisons futile. (fuel, air pressure, engine state, speed, RPM, human input/error, temperature, etc).

If yours doesn't correspond to the norm, then it has to do with your specific vehicle and not with a production year as a whole, and you should probably look into that.
Dude, you rock. Thanks.

Stupid point, and possibly totally irrelevant, but didn't someone mention that in some places (Australia was mentioned specifically I think) there are sound limits for cars in some places and the N exceeded them if it was the 109dB?

I'm probably adding 2+2 and getting 2938934659, but just a thought.

May or may not be true, but the car won't be quieter or not be poping/crackling while driving, it will be exactly the same.

Yeah I thought that would be the same, but Hyundai don't even say the car will do that sooo...

I just wondered if that was why the stationary value may have been lowered for the MY2019 as some places quote stationary values of around 90-95dB from what I can see, EU regs seem to be for cars whilst moving. No idea tbh just a thought.

This is becoming an obsession for some people - you know, like the whole ‘does my I30N actually make 271hp on the dyno’. Remember, when people were getting quite silly and there were all sorts of rumours and misinformation going around.

I mean, heaven forbid that the cars are actually coming out of Hyundai WITH the correct numbers, and it’s simply the Dyno figures that are wrong!!

I’ll finish with this, if you start your car and it’s not loud, then you have a problem. If it is loud though, then enjoy your car!

I know, what’s next?

Its mental, was defrosting the car the other day, and as I walked around the back of it, it made the coolest ‘gurgle’ just completely out the blue! We’re easily amused aren’t we!?

I dare guess what next in case I start something!! I'll hold my hands up and admit I fuss about stuff like this at first and it bugs me (7 months in the turbo whine still makes me twitch), then I just accept it and it's just how she is and I probably can't change it.

Easily amused? Never!!

I did not purposely leave a gap in traffic this morning, so I could go under a railway tunnel and make it pop...with another N behind me. She was too close and didn't look amused

So here's one, my car has always pop & crackled with the 3 bang bang bangs

Yesterday put petrol in 99 ron from my usual garage, pulled out of the station gave some right foot as i was trying to show off and i got a noticeable quieter poof rather then a bang odd but parked at home thought nothing of it.

Now while i was out today i tried again i got 1 bang rather then 3 and while it still pops they sound muffled is the best way to describe it

idea?

I fuelled mine with 99 ron twice and didn't notice any difference with the pops at around 4k rpm, then again, I don't want to thrash it to 6k+ rpm untill first oil change at 10000 km. That being sad, I will look closely again at the bark sound once I feed her with 99 delish.
LE: maybe it has something to do with the burn rate of the 99 when compared to the 95; my guess is, when they made the anti lag wizardry, they used the 95 ron in their tests...could also be completely unrelated

I didn't notice any difference with 95/98/102 fuel, sound wise.

Anyhow, I don't get the same bangs all the time, as the conditions are always different when you're out driving. Sometimes is one, some none, some 2, some 3.

On a side note, take into consideration that the first time you fill her up with "better" fuel, it'll have still ~10l old fuel in the tank.

Sorry i should have added i have always run the car on 99 in fact i have only ever used the same garage would you believe the car has never been filled up from another.

I more concerned i always got the same sound since i purchased it now the sound has changed (muffled)

Might just be a funny batch? I alway use the Momentum 99 stuff, and have had the same once or twice. When I filled up again it sorted it out.

So I've always used 99 too and my car has always made different noises from time to time. Sometimes the 3 bangs, sometimes 4, but more often a single bang.
A little while ago I had the same poof noise too, I was worried at first, but the normal noises came back.
I can't explain it, but it's definitely not just your car.

Why don’t you stick it in 2nd drive up to 45/50mph and lift off the throttle (when everything’s suitably warmed up of course).

As that always seems to produce the triple gun shot effect. Hope everything gets back to normal mate;)

Yeah I drive like that most if the time hahah same muffle noise but the fact that a few have had the same now meand it's not an isolated case, I have left the car in N mode to drain the petrol so I can another tank in there before I go to my dealer....they love me there got an invite to the xmas party....lol

Funny all this premium fuel malarkey I use 95 Ron pretty much all the time and mine pops and bangs all day long.Whenever I put 97 Ron in its slightly more irregular and the tailpipes build up carbon quicker.

Mind if I join in with this thread and let you know my experience on this?
3000km on the clock and always run 95RON until I stopped in a small town yesterday with 5 litres left in the tank and only 91 and 98 in the one servo that was in the town. 98 it is then! Prices are down here currently so $1.45 per litre in AUS is OK for 98.
This week I will run as normal daily driver and see how it goes from an economy viewpoint and then give it some N time and see (hear) if the exhaust noises are different.
Air temps are warm here which may effect the results. High 20's to low 40's are forecast this week. That is degrees celsius too not those Fahrenheit things we ditched long ago here in the colonies. ;)
