Hi everyone, I noticed a knocking sound from my engine only when hot. It can be heard from the interior of the car and outside with the bonnet opened. Is it normal? I owned it since new now at 19000km. First service at 5k km 2nd at 10k km and now I have to do the m2. Oil and coolant level always ok, checked every week since new, no overrevs and mostly highway use with some occasional spirited driving on mountain roads. I attached a video where the noise can be heard quite clearly. Thank you!

Sounds like low oil pressure, as you said only when hot.

do you think so? I thing it sounds top end. Ill change the oil tomorrow and check for metal flakes. Is weird with such low kms

These thin oils 0w20, lost their viscosity same like the thicker ones. If you have many starts and only short distance city driving. Your 0w20 becomes a 0w15 and so one in a couple of some thousand kilometers.

It is a natural behavior of oil under these circumstances, it is fuel enrichment in the oil. So the thiner the oil gets, the more your oil pressure will drop. Modern engines often have very low pressures in the oil gallery. Like 0,5bar and less on idle.

The thing is, as I said in the first post I mostly do highway driving. 50 km a day and little to no city driving. Thanks for answering btw!

In comparison to your from inside video, this one sounds not that strange. If you go that nearby with the mic it will capture sounds in detail and louder, then they are.

Check if the engine idle sound changes, after oil service.

The high-pressure fuel pump makes noises, the tapets, the valves, the whole valve train, and of course the direct injectors.

Engine bay sounds same as ours, I have good ears, never experienced that knocking from the inside.

Tomorrow i’ll change it. I will keep you updated thanks. The disturbing noise is the one from the interior, that I can identify with the hood open it comes from the center right part.

The center right part which looks like a little alternator, is the CVVD control unit, behind that is the covered HP-fuel pump.

Hey, running into the same exact issue with my car right now. Did you find a fix or figure out what the problem was? Appreciate any insights
