Suspension and Chassis ECS Error and steering wheel issue.

Hey everyone, i'm a proud owner of a i30N 2019 since a few weeks.

After driving for a few days, i noticed the right side of my steering wheel buttons (cruise control, rev match, etc) including drive mode buttons aren't always responding. Like they work 98% of the time and when they don't, suddenly after a few minutes they work fine like nothing happened.

Now also that same week, but a few days later, i suddenly got the error message "ECS error" popping up. Always 30 seconds after turning on the engine. And the suspension locks into N mode all the time now.

Thought there might be a connection between those two issues but it seems far fetched right now.
OBD gives no fault codes.

Went to the garage and it gives an error on the right front actuator. Today the car got a complete check up and everything seems fine except for the error and the suspension that is stuck into N mode.

Got the advice to go to an official dealer, and i will.
But the waiting times are pretty long and i wanted to hear other people's experiences on it.

Any insights or advice is greatly appreciated!

Hey, i cant comment on the steering wheel but I am currently going through the same thing with my right front actuator. You can check the post below yours. Did you get DTC code C2216:13?

The garage didn't tell me the exact code, they just said there is a malfunction on the front right actuator. I'll stop by on my way home after work and update you on the exact code.

Okay so i went to the garage to get the code, it's the same as yours. C221613.
From what I understand there is a small chance that the connector on the actuator is not making proper contact, otherwise it is likely that the actuator is faulty and the whole shock absorber needs to be replaced.

Thank you for your reply!

I got an appointment next week to get a proper diagnostic at a dealership. Probably with the same results but hopefully with some more details.

I checked the connections of the actuator and everything "looks" fine as far as i can tell. So i'm also starting to suspect that the actuator broke down and a new shock absorber will probably be the solution.

Will do! I got an estimate of €850 without labor costs for 1 absorber. It was just a quick estimate though so the cost might be a bit higher. I'm from Belgium so i think the costs would be roughly the same for us both. I'll update you when i know more.

Hi, so i went to the dealer today and get it all checked out. I got a proper diagnostic and the front right actuator just broke down and isn't doing anything anymore. So the whole absorber needs to be replaced. (as expected, sadly.)
Price comes down to €870 per schock. Got the advice to get both front shocks replaced at the same time to avoid imbalance. But since the left absorber isn't in stock right now at their supplier, i'm gonna start with only replacing the faulty shock absorber and see how it goes. Costly matter nonetheless.

€870?! Leave it to the Netherlands to push it up to €1200 per shock absorber. I bought two second hand ones on RRR from a 2023 model for €550 each. Will find out next week if they work as they are a bit different .

Bumping this thread to see if this was solved, as I have a similar problem right now! Dealer wants 1.900€ for replacing one(!) shock absorber…
