Is it possible to change it so when you press the N button it goes straight to custom mode? It’s kinda annoying it goes straight to N mode so I always have to press it twice. Had a look in the settings but couldn’t find anything - did I miss it?

Not possible. I'm surprised you've still got the energy to depress the clutch pedal to start the car after all those button presses.😂😂

I's not about energy, but it's annoying to do actions that shouldn't be neccessary anyway. And repeat that every day. In a computer system you want to set and save the default values and stages. It's normal, it's a basic and it'd be easy. If you can't do that, that is a software-system designing error. A bad software. We have to consder it as an error and we have to complain to Hyundai: please let us set up our favourite default settings. Then maybe they'll fix it.

The most simple solution would be: make the settings persistent between the off/on cycle, do offer the last settings at starting the car. Is this possible with the newest FL cars, MY22 ?

Why shouldn’t be, obviously it was designed that way.🤣

I’m surprised at how annoyed people get over such tiny things. How do you all get thru the big things, if this is such an annoyance? I mean seriously, what if it was equipped with hand window cranks?🤣👍🇺🇸

I'm a software engineer, Veloster. I know it's a silly SW design flaw. It should store my settings at shuting down, and use them at the start, in my opinion. Regarding window crank, I can choose an other car with elecric window. C'mon it's 2022 (at least very sooon), not the Stone Age. Or probably I'd choose the i30N with hand driven cranks, and then I'd upgrade it to electric, by the desciption on the N-cars.net forum's "Upgrading window crank" topic. Maybe you'd be the author, who knows.
Btw: Happy Christmas Veloster !

Merry Christmas to you also and may the Lord bless you! 😃👍🇺🇸

Come on, give yourself a break. It’s not a mistake, just an engineering choice. We drive a low end spectrum car, not a mid range. I’m 65 years old and have seen everything, owned allot of them too!🤣

🤣That would be a good topic, sometimes simplicity is the best.

Really liked my UK Mini, crank windows, engine that always started, no air conditioning, just basic transportation with allot of fun attached.

Used to take Kings Cross at 80+ and it would hold tight and lift the rear inside wheel. Did it everyday from Peterborough to Alconbury Village. Wouldn’t have a Robin Reliant though.🤣

I don't think it's an oversight/flaw but rather a choice. The car belongs to a segment for the occasional enthusiast. This means it's targeted to drivers where they can wake up early morning to take their kids to school , taking it out of a narrow parking lot, without a. scrapping walls/pillars in their half asleep rush and b. not upsetting their neighbours with unnecessary loud noises.
Once the kids are off and they warm up, it's a two click away to do whatever police ticket earning activities they wish to 😂😂😂😂

Said that, I do agree that the N button could select the custom first and the full fledge N with the second option. Considering that we rarely use the N, it makes more sense but I guess the PR at the time of the release was default option first and then the " go crazy with combinations " 😁

Manufacturer's have to program everything for maximum economy / minimum environmental impact, overriding those default settings is then a user choice.

Maybe I was ambiguous. When you push the checker flag and it selects N mode 1st then N-Custom at 2nd, that might be intentional, it's not important.
But I was talking about the system settings in general. Including the car mode settings.
When I shut down the car in ECO mode, then I want ECO mode back at starting up, if it was in N-Custom at shuting down, then I want N-Custom back at starting. I want her to remember my most recent settings. Always. Every settings. I'll change it when I want. I don't want her to reset my setting to a default. It was in ECO mode for reason. This is the concept of every serious OS, and car's infotainments run on Android or Linux (thats serious).
either:
- I can select which one is the default setting at the start (not the normal but I can select which one).
or:
- my latest settings will be the defaults at the start.

It's clear what you prefer to have but it's not how it works in the automotive world. The back-to-normal is an approach that covers many other things , from emissions , to consumption, to potential law suits.
Anything outside the "normal" should be user selection every time to ensure that it's a conscious selection and not left like that by accident.

btw, not sure why you mention the infotainment system and Linux. that's just the interface for the user, the car's setup is in the ECU. not that it matters , it's still software and programmable , just the manufacturer chose different approach , like all the other car manufacturers btw.

It's not what I prefer, but it's how it works in the computer world. When you set your brand new Windows10 up, you install your applications, you set the colors, and themes, you put your icons in the desktop...so on. You want it persistent, you don't want to repeat that at every Windows booting. There is no "prefered" setting every setting is legal and "normal" approach, even N mode. Preferred setting what the chief prefers. Me not the car. Especially the N-Custom is absolutely "normal" in your terms, because actually you can set anything you want, the most gentle and the most sporty car and anything in between. The emission, consumption is my business, I'm the owner, and I'm the human not the computer. I'm the boss, and I know what I want. I don't want the car make the political decisions instead of me on behalf of me. None of the settings can be illegal, I don't understand your argument about lawsuits. I wanna be the boss regarding settings, the car can make only the emergency decisions, because it's faster than me. But the car shouldn't decide the mode I want to use, it shouldn't decide the color of my Windows desktop.
I mentioned infotainment + android, because that is the main computer in your car with the most memory and fastest Arm SoC, it's far more sophisticated system than an MCU system. The ECU is an MCU (microcontroller) system with limited memory and performance. The infotainment is the interface between human and the ECU, it's the place to store the various user settings, it's the GUI, and it forwards your commands to the ECU, the ECU is the subworker who takes the settings and listens to sensors and controls the peripherals by preprogrammed tables, in real time.

No arguments whatsoever. Just saying the car is not what you want it to coming out of the factory nor any manufacturer will do what you are expecting.
You still be the chief by buying a programming module and overwrite the setup per your desires. 👍
