Clicking Noise - CV Joints? Differential? Other?

Hey everyone,


I’m behind the wheel of a 2020 Fastback Performance, and lately I’ve been hearing a weird clicking noise up front—mostly on the left, though occasionally on the right too (just a lot quieter). It vanishes once I’m cruising above 30 km/h, and it’s almost nonexistent when the car’s cold. I’ve already checked for stones in the brakes or tread — nothing.

I’m about 90% convinced it’s the CV joints, but I’m puzzled why it’d show up on both sides. One guy in a WhatsApp group reckons it could be the differential — fingers crossed it isn’t! What do you all think? Anyone else dealt with something similar?

For context, I’m a pretty easygoing driver, but during my german TÜV inspection the tech drove in circles on a uneven road— over and over like crazy for each side — to test for scrapes. Maybe that, plus general wear and tear, stirred something up. Ive already checked the workshop manual and I think you cant order the outer CV Joints seperate, just with the full shaft..

I have a similar clicking noise but only on the left side and only really does it when turning right.
I have 2 piece BBK on the front and have found that normally its the surface between the wheel and hub and I have cleaned this up which did stop the noise for a good 3 months or so.
I currently have it back and now also thinking it maybe driveshaft but its strange how it comes and goes for me.
I'm also thinking it could be the wheel bearings

If you find out what it is please let me know,

ty mate, Iam 90% sure its the wheel side CV Joint. I ordered used ones for both sides now (you have to buy the whole driveshaft as this part is not available seperately) original price at hyundai is 700€ for each. Lets hope this will fix it. Will give update here
 
I also noticed a somewhat similar sound, although less loud. It only happens when I'm turning while stationary it seems like, I hope it's not the driveshaft considering the very expensive price it costs to replace it.

If you have aftermarket wheels, especially with centering rings, the Honda CTR posts report a number of cases where the clicking is wheel/hub/centering ring related. Some report using felt on the rings/wheel/hub interface temporarily solves the issue.
 
yoo guys, so I replaced the driveshaft today and the problem is gone. This means one of the joints either wheelside or differential side was broken. Since you cant get the wheelside joint seperately I had to buy a whole new driveshaft. First I ordered a used one, but the quality was pretty bad, new part from hyundai was 760€. I replaced it on my own and it was not to hard with a lifting platform and some tools. 100% german TÜV broke it while he was testing for scratch marks for the new wheels driving like an idiot.

a good thing to test it is to get the car on temperature and drive some circles on a wide place in certain angles and see if you can hear the klicking noise
 
Interesting, thanks for letting us know! A few months ago one of my cv boot torn and splattered grease everywhere. I chose to replace the boot instead of the whole driveshaft because it was expensive and they didn't have an availability date on the driveshaft. I wonder if it was a sign that my driveshaft was going bad. I'll prolly eventually replace it ahah

yeah super expensive.. kinda fascinating to see the level of precision in this parts and how a minor error can have such a impact. Maybe dust came into yours
 
So I had my brakes apart over the weekend and gave the hubs and rear of the discs a good clean up and put back together and my clicking now gone (not sure how long for) mine is definitely not driveshaft or bearing but the surfaces between the disc and the hubs having some corrosion. Seems its an issue when having 2 piece discs/rotors on the front and found a lot of videos confirming the same issue of other brands.
 
Same issue here, dealership told me it's probably the brake pad shims (anti-squeal shims).
They readjusted them and the noise seems to have been reduced ,both in frequency and in intensity.
