Bluespark Tuning Box

Got my car Dyno tested and tuning box fitted at BlueSpark near Durham.
Had plenty of these done on my other cars over the years, Ed really knows his stuff. Before and after tests show power increase of around 35hp and 50 Newtons torque and you can absolutely feel the difference, it pulls much stronger in every gear.
Very easy to fit and only £175 absolute bargain. View attachment 24322
Graph looks like from Bluespark website, is it yours?

So... The first dyno told me:
Program E
Power at the hub: 230 HP (I guess that the measure gives results in HP than in PS) at 4700 rpm!!!!!!!!!!
Torque: 37 kgm at 4300 rpm
Unfortunately the gasoline was BP 98 RON and not the 100 RON!
The dyno specialist that it is expected more than 5 HP more power with 100 RON gasoline.
Program C (the default)
Power at the hub: 218 HP at 4700 rpm!!!!!!!!!!
Torque: 35 kgm at 4300 rpm
Program 0 (less or more the mode of the car itself
Power at the hub: ~198 HP (I guess that the measure gives results in HP than in PS) at 4500 rpm!!!!!!!!!! (???) and 197 at 5800 rpm...
Torque: ~32 kgm at 4300 rpm
Not bad at all...

On the other hand I am NOT pleased with the gears' ratios...
They are fulishly LONG and and the car's engine revs in relatively low rpm after the gearbox change to a higher gear-ratio, so for some tehnths of a second, you fill NOT enough accleration!!!!!!!!

We will see...

Antonios Dragonas
Please do you have diagrams?

Thank you

If am talking about track days or sport driving , not cruising where there is nothing to worry about. I guess in portugal with 35-40 celsius during summer time, you will find out what happens first hand :)
Also let me just ask one more question, if you're so worried about temperatures why would you buy a car with pops and bangs from factory? You know it's just dumping fuel to do that right 😂

You dont seem to understand the mechanism and the safety features. i get it because you are just a driver and not a programmer - mechanick. First of all, the factory pop and bangs are created mainly during lift off, where we retard timming and the fuel creates the pops and bangs. BUT during lift off, the load of the engine is minimized, so with almost zero load, there is almost zero damage.
Now when the tuning box is connected to the car, if there is a lean mixture made by the box, then you have lean mixture not only under lift off (where load is almost zero) but throughout the rev range and when you accellerate your engine runs lean. Thus, increased temps are created in the compustion champer and there is a lot of strength in the engine which looses reliability. When cruising, mixtures of AF/R are close to 15:1 for the i20n, so there is no problem.
Furthermore who told you that pop and bangs dont hurt the engine reliability?
If you do your math and read before you post, you can google and find that pop and bangs create problems to the reliability of the engine and reduce engines life. You can find it everywhere but i just send you a link (https://stxtuning.co.uk/pop-and-bang-remap/ ). Please before you post make sure that you know what you write because people may trust you and hurt thir engines.

do you have any other mods??

so you'd recommend not getting a tuning box and wait for a custom tune

Where did I say a pop and bang tune is safe? I'm just saying that you are worrying a tuning box might cause heat problems when you bought a car with pop and bangs from factory, makes no sense 🤷 A tune will do the same and our car has anti-lag, it's functional and if done well it will not damage the engine or the turbo, it's not like a pop and bang remap.

Our cars have pop and bangs "tune" from the factory in the stock map form. But it does not create problems because it happens only during lift off, when the load of the engine is almost zero thus almost zero damage, it doesnt happen during acceleration, only on lift off.
From the other hand with a tuning box, you alter air fuel ration and boost throughout the rpm range permanetelly, and do not just have stock pop and bangs only at lift offs. So when you have a tuning box and accelerate, you dont have a stock safe Air fuel ratio but an altered one.
Now if you run rich, you are safe but if you run lean then sooner or later because during accelerations (load) you are running lean, you will increase the temps in the combustion champer and in the long run you will create problems.
What you have to do? If you have a wideband sensor, you connect it to your car, you put 3rd or 4thgear and you accelerate from 2000 rpms to 6600 so as to see if you are running lean and if so in which rounds per minute.

During a true remap, the programmer measures your afr all the time, adjusts advance timming so there is no knock in the engine, makes the fuel richer to cool down the high temps, alters the revlimit of the engine etc.
Last but not least I cant figure out what anti-lag you mentioned has to do with safety of the engine due to running lean :p Tottaly irelevant!

Hi, I hope this help everyone. I received the box yesterday. Here are the measurements by GPS in N panel in car. In all measurements I started accelarete from 70km/h.

80-120 on 3. gear:
NObox: 4s
BOX program C: 3:40s
BOX pr. D/E: 3:20s

80-160 on 4. gear:
NObox: 10:80-11s
BOX pr. A: 9:60s
BOX pr. C: 8:80s
BOX pr. D/E: 8:79s

Looks like the E program is doing the same as Dcko. That is, a little bit more than C. They recommend Ccko long term, so I'll leave it there, the car is considerably livelier. I took all the measurements multiple times, on the same road. With the box I had a heavier car, because of full tank and worse petrol, just 95 octane. But still significantly better.

Always use hi octane fuel with these tuning modules for the best results.I only ever use Momentum which is 99 Ron. By the way, the bluespark actually takes a little while to settle in adjusting to the car and it's fuel. If you regularly change to a lesser fuel it won't settle properly and you will not get the best results. I only ever use hi octane with performance cars anyway but with the tuning box it's a must.

I know the UK isnt really in its peak hotness yet but i was at Thruxton today (started at 13c and got to 18c) and on 'E' along with my other mods i still experienced my usual temps 88C-95Cish during driving and only creeping to 105C while stationary after a run and normalising quickly

Just got back from Surrey Rolling Road, so with Bluespark tuning box on E, in N mode, with the Forge Motorsport turbo inlet, discharge pipe and cold air intake *drum roll* 245.3BHP with a completely healthy and safe air fuel ratio soooo "tuning boxes do nothing" is incorrect

As i cant see clearly on dyno paper written, the rpms where your car achieves max values of power and torgue, i
cant express my comments. Power and torgue shapes are perfect though.
But as power diagram indicates, your max power is around 6500 - 6600 rpms, thus is not accurate specially with a car without exhaust modes like gpf delete or/and downpipe. Exhaust fumes, cannot empty the stock system with the stock parts in place very effectively, thus max power cannot be obtained in such high rpms.
As i have seen more than 12 different i20n dynos, with all the three different kind of tuning boxes (racechip, dte - dtuk and bluespark) Typical maxpowers rpm values are much much lower in the power band. Keep in mind, its a turbo car with a small stock turbine, not a Normaly aspirated VTEC honda K20A2 Engine, with high lobe camshafts.

I have a question for the people that have the bluespark installed. Is the light supposed to just flash blue even when the engine is turned on?

Mines sealed up and in the protective case so ive never seen the lights, but, lets assume the lights are on as its working and powered by the vehicle its plugged in to
