Black Hyundai Badges

Looked fine when test fit, it’s only a very slight bit of chrome showing but I may try to refit as I’ll know it’s there. Probably used too much silicon as I used the full syringe on both badges.
Check out the video by Garth Williams I linked to a few posts ago. He shows how he spread the silicone for the front badge. I copied him and it turned out great. He didn't put on the rear cover but you can see that he put it on the wrong way when test fitting it.

I used the full syringe too on both badges, no silicone showing and no chrome to be seen as well. Make sure you give it a good push @Seano1878 so it seats all the way in. I actually found that the silicone could have been a bit more, as there was a few small spots that lacked some, but it is on there nice and strong from what I can see.

The dude selling them has made tens of thousands of euros up until now just on i30N covers. How has nobody else started making them? I've been watching his listing for just 2 months and have seen atleast 150 sold. Not to mention the Tuscon and Kona covers.

Yeah, he or she have themselves a nice little monopoly here. Creating greater demand and commanding higher prices by limiting supply and releasing them in small batches. Very clever.

I say we create competition and undercut him, surely one of us in the forum has the skills and know how to make a badge cover ;)

Come on guys. 30 bucks for some very good looking covers...I love mine.
It is not like he is mass producing them in a factory.
He deserves every bit of the money.

Oh, I'm happy to pay (again), just can't get 'em shipped here anymore. And yes, deserved - they've found a nice, little niche market.

I am quite surprised that someone like Hudson automotive or performance on the net haven’t bought a set to copy them. Can’t knock the guy for controlling the black badge cover market! :p

One thing I must mention is while I am very satisfied with my covers, I can't help but notice the type of black they are is very brown/greenish. Very noticeable when for example you compare it to the boot spoiler's gloss black.

If my covers ever deteriorate I am going to buy a second set of OEM badges and paint them gloss black properly.

Really I think this guy is taking the proverbial, the original badge emblem front is only £11.95 and even the rear is priced the same on flea bay just take the badge off prep it with a plastic primer and plastic coat it black that’s what I would do but never would I pay £36 for what is essentially a hollow plastic emblem cover that fits over the original.

Yes, hats off to him for doing it must have a 3D printer and cad software or work in such a field with access to this expensive equipment to fashion the badges but really £36 sorry I’ll pass on this one.

So anyone here works in 3d modelling and cad software can fashion the badge accurately and start a price war I would nto mind paying £19 but £36 is taking the piss.

The main reason people don't just take off and paint their emblems is that the front Hyundai emblem has screws that you can only reach by taking the front bumper off. It's much easier to put covers on.

Well I would use liquid masking fluid then tape and sheet round the front grille badge tape it off and prep the badge in situ & spray paint it.

That may be a summer project for me next year.

Look fair play to the fella for making these badges and selling them at an extortionate price.

Suppose if there is a will there is a way but yes if you like paying £36 for the privilege of taking the soft option with a very big dollop of Vaseline, then be my guest.

I hear you and I agree with you about not being able to take the front badge off the front grille liquid tape and masking tape is your friend with a good amount of prepping with paper and tape I cannot see why you would be able to achieve the same result for a lot less money, and if spraying is not possible to you or you cannot be bother with the prepping and liquid masking taping with paper then spray into a plastic lid and use a small artists brush and apply it by hand.

£6.99 black plastic bumper paint

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/p...nts/halfords-plastic-bumper-paint-black-300ml

Dark grey plastic primer £2.99

Optima Dark Grey Plastic Primer Aerosol (300ml)

Total cost £10

I already have these paints in the garage from a previous time so will cost me nothing.

But hay I’m not hating the guy I admire him really for having the gumption to do this and he makes very small amounts to keep interest very high. Congratulations to the guy.

Peace
