Some pretty negative comments in this review especially relating to ride and handling? https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/hyundai/i30-n
Hopefully owners disagree.

Yes I'm hopefully going for another test drive at the weekend to try and make my mind up.I'm so done with reviews.
This is the car for me - if it isn't for you then so be it.
Can't wait to get this car.....

The niggles I had following the first drive weren't deal breakers but I'm trying to avoid a case of act in haste repent in leisure I also have to take account my other half who hasn't seen the car yet! My first test drive was OK but the salesman didn't know much about the car so I didn't really get a chance to compare different settings or try it on a good twisty road. I am of an age where my decision will also be influenced by PCP cost. The dealer I'm going to next has so far come up with the best price (£100 pm cheaper than first dealer) and is implying there are further discounts to be had. If the drive is OK, the wife happy and the price is close enough to my target then I will probably order.
At the end of the day Howy, you have to consider the elephant in the room.
Much like the rise of Toyota and Honda sports divisions in the 80's/90's this is, objectively speaking, a potentially class leading car from a brand that, in badge conscious Europe, does not have ANY cache. It will take time for mindsets to adapt...
The cold hard truth is that some reviewers will not be able to fully overcome their bias against the brand and that will come through in reviews (as a British guy I have to be honest and say the Brits are some of the worst for it).
Don't get me wrong, it's not a perfect car by any means...for example, as other members have mentioned there is some slightly gimmicky electronic gadgets in the car that don't really work well. In this way it's a bit like a Samsung smartphone ironically! haha
But for me personally, I'm taking all reviews with a pinch of salt...
I've never dismissed performance cars based on badge. I was one of the first people in the UK to obtain a 205Gti when Peugeot were viewed in the same light Hyundai are now. Although I was drawn to consider the i30N due to positive reviews I would always choose based on my test drive experience However given that most buyer test drives are relatively short and often restricted it can be helpful to glean information from 'professional reviewer's' whilst recognising that they may have prejudices too and as you say no car is perfect. At the end of the day Howy, you have to consider the elephant in the room.

Can you tell me which gimmicky parts in particular other owners have mentioned?

Well drove miles in crappy weather to Mansfield Hyundai for their VIP weekend. Had a test drive in a clean slate one. It went well, even got to hear some pops and crackles and tried different modes. Wife seems happy (for now) and got what I think was a good price (better than numerous other dealers) so have ordered a white one with winter pack (did that surprise you Paul H?) delivery in a couple of weeks its at the docks but I'm not holding my breath based on what others are saying re delays. If anyone else interested in a good price contact Phil Dabel mention my name Howard.
And just to add icing on the cake have ordered a personalised registration hope it gets here before car is ready.AT LONG LAST!!!
Well done mate!
