New wrinkle in this story. I inadvertently triggered the collision avoidance nanny a week or so ago for the first time since the new wheel. After things settled down, I was left with a message to check haptic steering wheel. Took the car to the dealer who installed the Alcantara wheel, and the tech found that the new wheel is missing two wires on a multipin connector under the airbag that would power the haptic motor. The motor can be transferred over, but there is nowhere to plug it in. If the collision avoidance system is triggered, and the BCM does not see current at the haptic motor, this sets off the alarm. They said they could look further down the column to see if the connector that plugs into the one under the airbag has the missing wires and swap that pigtail out as well, but I said the h*ll with it. Pushing the OK button on the wheel clears the error message, and that is good enough for, me. Just thought I would mention, because if someone wants to retain the haptic function of the wheel, the installation will be way more expensive than I paid originally, and you may have to tell your service writer about the possible conflict in advance so the tech does not make the same mistake my original one did.
