Hello,

2 days ago i was driving down the motorway in 6th gear at 110km/h, when suddenly i hear a loud bang and a massive smoke screen behind me.
Check engine light came on and my car had no power.
Now, my dealer says piston shot through head gasket cousing it to crack wide open.
My car has 35,000km and year 2018.

Still waiting on my dealer to call me on what to do from this point on.

Sorry, for my bad english but i though i should post this here.

Greetings.

I know Tilen we met in RL once or twice already at a meet and i sold him 2 of my Pirelli tires when i switched to Michelin. Am absolutely befudled how that happened his service record was clean aswell, we bought is at similar time aswell April 2k18. Waiting to hear more news. I wonder what the reason would be that caused this 😕😕

This seems to be the first cataatrophic failure of an i30n engine in this forum?
Given the age of the car, the member count and how vocal the bad experiences get - we seem to have great reliability.

Tilen, sorry to hear this, hopefully a brand new engine goes into your car and the only struggle you have is the new run-in period :)

There was another that got lunched with bent valves and all. Showed all the symptoms of being over-revved (despite firm denial from the forum member / owner to the contrary). In any case it was replaced under warranty so I'd hope this one is too.

The first i30N yes , not the first 2.0T Theta II (VN). It happened sometime last year with one member,. However, I believe the member missed a shift and went from second to first. Owner admitted on social media he missed the shift and mechanically overrode the rev limiter, causing a piston and rod failure in number one cylinder.

There was some discussion about it, because of his admission on Social Media. The member came here looking for similar issues. :)

Out of curiosity, did you put your foot down or were you literally just cruising at the one constant speed ?

If there weren't any knocking noises before the failure I'd say your engine dropped a valve, collet failure or the valve seat dropped out of the head, met the piston and wrecked the engine.
