Exhaust- / Sound Discussion

Thanks for that, you lose a bit of engine performance going down to 95 don’t you?

It’s not noticeable - engine management does the donkey work, I think. I use 99 out of habit, if I’m stuck or it’s too expensive I’ll put 95 in and can’t tell a difference.

Well if I lived in the UK I’d probably use 95 a lot, everytime I go there to visit family it blows me away how much you pay for petrol, I don’t understand why you pay through the nose for it??

Tax! I think at the moment 95 is 115.9p per litre, and the 99 is 120.9p. So for 5p more per litre I don’t even think about it and just use it!

OMG that’s expensive! your all getting screwed over massively, surprised there’s never been a yellow vest protest in the UK, here in Oz we pay around $1.40 per litre at the moment, so about 70-80p in sterling, and it’s only getting cheaper right now, your govt is bending you over.

Yes I know, just hurry up and leave the EU, Europe is a basket case, without Germany proping it up, it would collapse, you’ll be much stronger in the long term, most countries on earth like us down here are not tied to a block, and we survive on our own perfectly fine, it’s sad to see the once greatest empire on earth having a panic attack about standing on its own two feet..

*grabs Irish passport and does a runner*

I have to renew my UK/EU passport soon, have no idea what I’ll get back? lol

Who knows. It’ll be either burgundy or blue, I guess.

Mind if I join in with this thread and let you know my experience on this?
3000km on the clock and always run 95RON until I stopped in a small town yesterday with 5 litres left in the tank and only 91 and 98 in the one servo that was in the town. 98 it is then! Prices are down here currently so $1.45 per litre in AUS is OK for 98.
This week I will run as normal daily driver and see how it goes from an economy viewpoint and then give it some N time and see (hear) if the exhaust noises are different.
Air temps are warm here which may effect the results. High 20's to low 40's are forecast this week. That is degrees celsius too not those Fahrenheit things we ditched long ago here in the colonies. ;)
Well it has been close to two weeks on the 98RON and not a lot to report really. Fuel economy in daily driver mode is no different given the variables that are in play driving to work and back each day. The exhaust note I feel is a little quieter however I will say that on a slightly cooler day (not many currently here) I felt the burbles were louder at lower speeds. I see no reason to continue using 98RON over 95 given my driving conditions. If I plan a track day or intend to do some harder driving then 98 will be the fuel used as a safety margin and potential power improvement.
Lastly I believe the loudest pops and bangs were on 95 however I also believe the air temp and the variations applied to fuel month by month have an impact.
Cool weather / 95 equals bigger bang at least for me. I will try 98 again in the cooler months and see if we can improve on what I have experienced so far.

I don't believe so. I could not tell any difference in performance with the 98. Good protection against detonation if you are gonna flog the pants off it but that is it IMO. I'm going back to 95 until Hidden Valley is open for lap sprints again.

You can argue the power debate all day and can show arguments for and against.
In the most basic of form the better quality fuel you use the less chance of dett that can occur, dett is bad for the engine.

As an analergy you can feed you dog normal/lower grade food but would you? You know he will fine but you want to pay that bit extra and better higher grade or more vitamins right?

The problem here is the availability and the distance to travel for 99ron for a lot of people. So, as far as I know, it’s only Tesco and Shell that have 99ron. They are not local to me.

I have BP Ultimate and ESSO which are both 97ron I think. Also have super unleaded from Co-op and Sainsburys that are really convenient

I’ve used the Co-ops fuel for probably 90% of all fill ups with this car and it is simply due to convenience (and no problems that I can tell). However, IF I had a Tesco or a Shell local I’d be using them 100% of the time....
