Next geN wishlist

1. Automatic gearbox = lower consumption and faster 0-100 time. Sure...it is fun to change gears manually and you have 100% control but automatic do it faster and more precise now days and there are always the paddles on the steering wheel. As daily driver automatic is also better in traffic specially with drive assist in traffic jams. You can also focus more on the driving with two hands on the steering wheel. So it should be an option and up to the buyer if you want an automatic or a manual. (Yes i know the wet dual clutch is on the way)
2. 300Hp as minimum.
3. 4WD. Haldex? As an option.
4. Price under 35.000€
5. Option for 18" Wheels and 2-3 wheel stiles to choose from.
6. Ride quality should be better when you choose softer option. Now the suspension is to hard even at the softest position.
7. All lights should be LED! It´s 2019!
8. Better stability in rainy condition.
9. Less weight and more aluminum parts that don´t rust.
10. Blue pedals on steering wheel don´t belong in a car with other color than blue so they should change the color to a standard that match the interior or make them in the same color as the color of the car.
11. Better/upgraded water cooler.
12. Interior design could be better. Infotainment screen integrated into the dashboard and not "glued on" like in many other cars. I like what they have done to the new A1 interior. Hyundai should look at that sporty design and "copy" the best things.
13. Virtual cockpit in not a must and it would definitely drive the price up but it maybe could be an option in the future? For me personally i like nice looking analog gauges but a map on a screen in front of you instead of a side is very tempting.
14. Windscreen wiper engine should be stronger so it work also at higher speeds.
15. Better rear camera?

ONE QUESTION? Do you own one? or are you looking at buying one? or do you own a Golf? (OK, I know that is 3 questions!)

I own one, I accept it is first gen, and it has some issues, though I have not experienced any of them that haven't been fixed by the dealer quickly and for free. I bought one because the price was $15k less than the Type R, and didn't look like a Hot Wheels fantasy car.

1. I prefer manual, and DCTs are better for track work than traffic jams.
5. I upgraded to lighter 18" wheels, and sold the originals for the same price (almost).
6. Ride quality in Oz IS softer, all settings are softer, so no problem here. The Tyre R Civic is soft but only when in Standard mode, with all high performance things turned off. NO custom mode to adjust individual items, so it is either soft everywhere or too hard and handles.
7. 1st world problem.
10. If you mean the paddles, I like the blue, something only the N has.
13. Something else to fail, and cost a fortune to replace out of warranty.

Almost every thing else you want will drive the price upward, and Hyundai's big advantage over the competition is price. Remove that, and sales will plummet, and the N will be dropped.

Unlike TempleGuy, I have driven Honda's for the past 36 years, they have always been reliable. Civic Vti. Integra Type R, S2000, another EG Civic with B18C, a HRV with B18C7, a Legend, a CRX and a CRZ. Changing from Honda to Hyundai was a BIG step, made easy after the first drive, and the price.

Corsa59. I am looking to buy one and going over all the options out there. I love the stile of i30N and how it drives and will do the same thing as you did. Get 18" wheels for summer and winter and sell the originals. That if i get i30N and i really want one :p. I also get that this is 1:st gen and that some things are as they are so the price is kept down. I don´t like Golf and will never have one. I am looking for a daily driver that is fun and quick and take corners well. Speeds over 150 are not important but 0-100 is. Right now i30N is my first choice. Just waiting for the right price. I am not getting new car. Looking for 2017/2018 in gray. Maybe will go to track some day but that is not what i want this car for.

I'm very jealous! Owning an S2000 and/or an EK Civic is my dream. Just wouldn't want them as a daily car.

Despite a lot of useless tech, to be fair the i30N and Hyundais in general, are a good value for money. With so many options, the cost will go up and we will end up in the AMG/BMW territory.

Lets face it, if you have the budget, you would start to look at other brands. What Hyundai's and the N brand is doing, is to attack with price initially.

Otherwise you will end up like Skoda, which is fast becoming a very expensive brand for what is supposed to be a budget brand of the VAG group.

For me it’s hard to say what I’d like from Gen2.0. The i30N hits the right sweet spot in terms of price. Right this moment 8 months later (wow, time really does fly in this car!), I have no desire to want another car. If Hyundai comes out with its replacement in the next 3 years I’m honestly not sure if I’d want it. It would need to be a serious upgrade to make me want to switch but then it’ll likely be more expensive too. Plus, I’ll probably want to hang onto this original i30N as it could be that next “it” car years down the line. It would be a very difficult decision. I’ve driven 10k miles to-date and had zero issues with the drive or engine. At the service everything was spot on according to the mechanic so I shouldn’t have anything to worry about coming into the bigger 20k service.

Yes there are some niggles here & there already mentioned in this thread and other threads but it’s not enough to make me upgrade to the next iteration if they fix them & then some.

300bhp
Would be great if it came at this at stock (or higher) but at FWD it’s already pushing the boundaries on those fronts. Right now it’s an easy fix with a DTUK tuning box (or similar), plus a PedalBox for added response.

LEDs
Again easily (and cheaply) fixed with some interior & exterior LED bulbs for £50 tops. Gives the N a more up-to-date aesthetic inside & out.

Colours
More choice of colours would be appreciated. I love my MG. It’s like a wolf in sheep’s clothing. So sleek and subtle too with its lovely curves and stylish exterior design. I love the red version too. However, if there was an option for more premium metallic colours I would definitely have a deep metallic colour shifting green :) A decent wrap will fix this though.

Engine Bay
I’m sure some others agree the engine bay looks a bit boring and doesn’t do the N justice. I’m working toward that with the Forge BOV installed already and hopefully the Forge Induction Kit later this month. Should spice it up nicely with some extra noise and slight performance increase as a bonus. Just need a better looking engine heatshield preferably made from an anodised coloured metal (in red) which would look awesome!

Wheels/Tyres
Yes they are susceptible to kerbs and potholes unfortunately. I’ve had 3 separate scuffs all on the same wheel in 2018 but got it buffed out eventually thanks to a diamond cut alloy specialist near me, but perhaps this can be changed in the next version with a better combo choice. Keep the 19” look though (or push to 20s if doable). 18s don’t suit the look of the N in my opinion. Makes it look less aggressive.

Interior
Aside from a lack of LEDs, if there is one thing they could improve it’s definitely the interior trim. Many have commented on that, both owners and critics alike. I like the seat though but some don’t. The dashboard and inside doors plus all the plastic bits could be better. The option to change colours would have been great since the blue stitching doesn’t suit the MG, Red, White and other colour models except of course the PB. The Blue buttons I don’t actually mind though. It’s like the trademark for the N now.

Most of these changes would bump the price up past £30k though so you have to wonder if it’s actually worth it or not. Some things can be user customised as I and many others have done already, even if that means having to fork out another grand in doing so.

for me:
1. HUD
2. Bigger fuel tank
3. little bit softer ride quality in normal mode
4. better turning circle
5. 4WD

i am 44 years old, and like sporty and powerfull cars.
fuel consumption is maybe to high for my city driving to work every day, but doesn't matter. i enjoy the car every morning and drive it with a smile like a little boy with a new gift.

for sure it can be a few things better, but hyundai made a great fun car :) for a good price and i am really happy with it.

I‘m with you regarding point 1 - 5 except point 3. For me it‘s soft enough in normal mode.

When we talk about 4WD there should also be a significant increase in torque and hp.

And Hyundai should try to reduce the weight of the car by at least 150kg:)

Many good suggestion, although many of them will increase the price to much.

If I could choose one thing, I would want a soft setting on the suspension for normal everyday driving.
It is a little to hard today, even it it is livable.

Reading all previous it appears this is a battle between price and what we would all like regardless. I appreciate this N thing is not perfect but 'bang for buck' is king for me at this stage of my life. Call me simple, but I'd just be happy with a full-size spare wheel. Bigger fuel tank would be nice too, but those two items are obviously mutually exclusive.

The biggest thing for me would be it’s weight, it’s too heavy, and you can feel it, it needs to come down by 150kgs minimum, that alone would change a lot, Speed, performance, fuel etc.. so I hope that’s at the top of the list at N division.

that would further increase the price - it much easier to add some power than to reduce some weight... it seems that most manufacturers nowadays are choosing the easiest way

I disagree with that. A lot of manufacturers are making cars lighter again! This is a trend, that not only high-end manufacturers show. Think of the new mazda MX-5 for example. Its much lighter again without being more expensive. I would think that weight reduction is a good way to improve the next N without making it too expensive. :)

this is a quite rare example in the case of mainstream cars (what's why I wrote "most manufacturers" ;) )

Just look at the 308 GTI, that thing is super light, it’s just over 1100kgs or something, that’s ridiculous, it’s also not much of difference in price from the N either, so it can be done, Hyundai needs to work on this part of the car for the next gen..

Over the years cars have become heavier and heavier. The average new car weighed 3,221 pounds in 1987 but 4,009 pounds in 2010 (Source: slate.com). I am not sure why the I30N is so heavy compared to other hatchbacks, but personally I would rather crash in a heavier car, even if I like the idea to have a lighter I30N for increased performance.

I am pretty sure the I30N weight is a trade off for get a lower production cost, a decent sound proofing and better test crash results.

All of the above are good points. We have what we have though...and it is pretty damn special. Like @Mr.Gobsy said - "wish" list. We'll see what Hyundai come up with in years to come. I am excited about what the future may bring :). This is just the very beginning ;).

There is no problem with price if they will be able to offer N in 2-options:
1. FWD with PP (6g man or DSG) 280bhp/400Nm
2. 4WD with PP (6g man or DSG) front LSD included 350bhp/450Nm
It will leave customers option to choose between 2 different price ranges and will make it even more popular (it helps them to crab away some RS, R and Cupra buyers from market).
Things they must improve on current model has been mentioned here already but same things here - headlamps, whole infotainment system needs upgrade, more soundproofing material, aluminum body panels (bonnet, roof, front wings to improve weight balance) and better quality of interior. They should also add littlebit more paint to the boddy details.
Even if 4WD N will be more expensive than Focus RS, I will prefer Hyundai. I am driving Focus RS currently and I have to tell that I like N more even if it has less power and FWD.
