Exhaust- / Sound Discussion

Do Hyundai say that your car will pop and bang anywhere? I know the give a dB level but I just wondered what they say the exhaust will actually do. Couldn’t see anything online but their mobile site is a bit meh

Good point Emma! I'm not aware that they actually do, its not like You could make a warranty claim on the 'sound' of the exhaust ;)

If the exhaust meets emissions standards and isn't physically loose then not a chance! On the plus side Mine pops and bangs handsomely, I wonder If its to do with how You run them in, fuel etc? From what I've read on here some seem more pop worthy than others

Yeh it’s the inconsistency with each car that’s annoying, bit of a lottery if you get a good popping car or not, this sort of thing won’t help sales I’d imagine if people think it’s not worth the risk of getting car that doesn’t pop like this car supposed to do..

I'm not sure this will hit sales, but it will create some unhappy customers if not every cars exhaust does as advertised

But advertised where??
There is the issue. Hyundai don't advertise that the car will pop or bang at 4000rpm in second gear or words to that effect. YouTube reviewers are zoned in on the exhaust noises and as such has driven the expectation that the i30N has fireworks hidden in the exhaust system somewhere.
Like all fireworks, some are more spectacular than others given many variables. I don't think there is much come back to Hyundai if yours does not pop like the demo car or some YouTube video you watched 4 months ago. As they say "Life is not fair".
Sorry, in a bit of a dark place just at this moment.

@Stash-N exactly my point, but as usual, put much more eloquently.

Don’t apologise either, you’re absolutely right. Hope the dark place isn’t too dark.

Yes mine pops at 4k when it had 1500kms on the clock, and they pop on down shifts as well.

No I don’t get that at all, only on up shift in 1st over 5k, nothing switching down, disappointed..

good spot on the video mate, i have driven 3 N's and none did that and they were all lets driven hard....and dont even get me started on the demo car lol

Interesting to hear you drove multiple that only bang 3 times, I have no other N to compare mine too... I might post up in the QLD N Facebook page to get a reaction/meet up with a local BUT I usually get 3 bangs it's just a coincidence the video had 4.

@TempleGuy I hope our 4 bang N sounds are not an indication of something wrong! If the crack and pops are meant to come from the variable timing / tune being manipulated then surely if some aren't popping as much could ones that pop too much be causing issues/damage?

Someone with more knowledge on the subject surely will be able to answer :oops:

I would love to have these problems with popping too much, I barely get anything:(

Haven't followed the whole thread, but noticed that my car doesn't pop now at under 4 Celsius as it does above. I think it not related to newer models, but to the ambient temperature.

Mine only very rarely pops on downshift for some reason. But savage upshifting sounds like 6 June 1944 in Normandy. Sorry bro :(
Well all the pops I don’t get are all rolled into the 1st gear change, it seriously sounds like a gun shot lol, it’s so loud, but I’d trade that for some more frequent smaller ones if I could..
