Over rev

Hey everyone, I’ve recently bought an i20N. Been driving it for a while now, around a month. Unfortunately yesterday on a spirited drive, I downshifted by accident into 2nd instead of 4th, and got the ‘beware’ message on the cluster as well as hearing the revs climb excessively.

Problem is I’m not sure what speed I was going exactly and how high the engine revved. Scared the shit out of me honestly, I think I did put the clutch in as soon as I could as well as braked harshly. I have to assume I was going around 70MPH? But honestly have no idea.

Drive back home seemed fine, no new noises or anything nor any engine lights. Also feels fine, but I’m absolutely stressed lol. If anything does happen, I don’t have warranty anyways, not that I’ve tried it yet for another unrelevant issue, due to it being a write off (Cat N in the UK). So warranty isn’t really a concern as I never had it, or should have it anyways. I guess I’m just concerned if I damaged anything.

When I wake up hopefully should see how a cold start is and if there’s any issues.

Any input appreciated. I’m finding it hard to sleep lol.

I had this happen quite recently to me - everything is fine, don’t worry. The display is just a warning against over revving the engine and its Not saying you have caused any damage.

Yeah, drove around quite a bit today and everything seems fine. At first I thought there was a new sort of ticking noise at high speeds, but its just the esg as it was happening only in N mode.

Did you let the clutch out whilst the message was displayed? Looking back, I think I may have just bordered the redline as i was going around 65MPH when I downshifted, which would’ve took me just past the redline. That’s what I’m hoping anyways.

I understand the message is just a warning and not indicative of any damage actually happening, but I let my clutch out whilst it did pop up so I assumed I did overrev. Wish I could access the GDS data, but it’s way too expensive just to find out what the overrev actually was.

Anyways, trying to just forget about it and pay extra attention to the way I shift now. It’s traumatised me lol.
