New i20N Owner - Questions about rust protection

Hello dear N community,

I hope this is the right thread for posting this. It has already been three weeks and I am a proud owner of an i20N. Glad to be part of it. It is such a hoot to drive and I am enjoying it a lot.

I just have some questions regarding rust protection. Luckily, I managed to get a garage space as soon as I got the car, but I still want to be extra cautious. It is my daily, but I mainly use public transportation for commuting. The car will still be used in all four seasons, probably two to three times a week, in Germany if that is relevant.

Obviously, I cannot predict how long I will keep the i20N, but I drove my first car for around eight years and I am really looking forward to keeping this one for a very long time as well. Hence my question: would you recommend underbody protection and cavity sealing?
I asked the dealer where I bought the car, and he said that it was not necessary for modern cars anymore, but I am not so sure about that. He also mentioned that it could ruin the car because of the smell of the grease. Still, I am inclined to do it, as I had a horrible experience with rust on my Golf MK5. If it had not rusted, I would have probably replaced the broken transmission and still be driving it today. That said, I am happy it opened up a new chapter with the i20N. I just want to do everything right with this car in order to enjoy it as much as possible.

One additional question: do you know how this affects servicing at a Hyundai dealer? Will there be any issues if protection has been applied?
Thanks so much in advance.

hi, i did it for my i30N here for My N

I dont have any smell or anything of the sorts. Its just super annoying in summer heat when the grease liquidifies and drips from the sealed cavities, so i have to clean up grease leaks from time to time.

I told my dealer it sealed the first times and gave them an extra paper roll for the service if cleaning something up is necessary.

That sounds reassuring and at least the car will be protected. And very nice, another fellow Berliner! Where did you have it done? It looks like you applied the protection yourself. Can you recommend a workshop for this kind of work?

Thank you so much! Just to confirm, the dry ice cleaning was done to remove residue and surface rust so the protection can be applied properly, right? Will probably do the same. I want to drive it for a long time 😊
