N Garage are selling this pump for AUD $600, and the fitment includes the 2.5L Sonata, as well as the i30N and Kona N. Maybe simply that the Sonata is a bigger engine?
I have just checked my 2018 and it is still on the original pump (2GHA0), although it seems someone has been at the fuel pipe before as there are some witness marks on it (which has me a bit confused).
Have others replaced the fuel pipe as well? All the tech notes say that its one use only and is to be replaced, but do people just ignore this? If I were to follow the tech notes to the letter I would need:
- Fuel pump
- New fuel pump gasket
- New fuel pump bolts
- New fuel pipe
- Either a special tool for the fuel pipe flange nuts, or a set of crows-foot wrenches
- A smaller torque wrench (as mine does not go down to 10lb.ft)
All making the cost quite high. I don't mind spending money on tools, but Interested to know if others have swapped the pump only and not replaced the other parts as recommended? I would prefer not to do this tbh.
Also depressurising the fuel system has me concerned about potentially damaging the cat. by causing a misfire, but even the Hyundai tech service bulletin states to remove the fuel pump relay, start engine and allow to idle until dead... so if they aren't worried about that then I guess its ok?
