i20N - Reviews, General Discussion & Info

Presume that was a UK dealer?

I put in a test drive request two months ago and heard nothing further. Been back in contact with the local dealer again and they still don't seem to know if they have a demo of not - awaiting a further call back. There seems quite a lack of awareness of N cars at dealerships. I enquired about the i30N when it first came out and the local dealership hadn't a clue.

At the moment I'm also trying to get a drive in a GR Yaris and am not having much joy there either!

Yes it is. We got lucky to be honest. I'll DM you and see if I can help!

@Wetherfell scratch that I can't send you a message (think I'm on the naughty step 😂 )

Basically dealers won't be getting demos, and that's from Hyundai themselves, they want the cars sold - I'm going to assume it's because they just don't have the stock. So some dealers have got creative/clever in how they've done it.

We test drove at Bristol, Berkeley Vale.Drove my i30N down there, straight into the DCT, and then followed up with the i20N. Can't knock them at all for that, they just gave me the keys and let the pair of us drive it for about 40 minutes or so. In the end we ordered from Worcester.

I think Barnsley has a demo, but other than that I don't think I've seen any others.

I gave up with the GR Yaris, we looked last year. Wasn't even allowed to turn it on 😂.

Trying to get demos of ‘performance’ models is almost impossible at moment. I was looking at a Cupra and it took me over a month to even find the correct spec demo. I was also looking at a GTI clubsport and that was impossible to find a demo anywhere close.

Thanks, Emma. My local dealer has just come back to me and advised similar story but hoping to have a demo by October. They didn't seem too happy that the press seem to be getting cars to write about but they can't get one to show customers.

Thing is that you can request a test drive while browsing the Hyundai site, they send you an acknowledgement saying the local dealer will be in touch to finalise things - then nothing, making it look like the dealers slipping up, so no wonder they're a bit annoyed.

In normal times, I would just slip into the dealer, have a good look at the car of interest, then arrange a drive if I was serious. Of course you can't even do that at the moment as they can't even get a "showroom demo", and quite a lot of dealers are still doing the Covid stuff -appointments only, sanitizer everywhere and facemasks indoors.

No way I'd buy a car online without a drive or even a look, but it seems plenty are at the moment.

I had the same issue with booking online, and two dealers confirmed appointments. Unfortunately they were for the Nline which is really just the same supposedly 🙄

Totally agree, I wanted to try both and wouldn’t have bought without testing. I really love the i20N, but @i20nobby is getting that and I’m having the DCT. The dealer I get mine serviced at currently aren’t doing any test drives at all, luckily lots of other dealers are just letting people have the cars and driving alone which is what happened at Bristol and Worcester (they let me have a second go as I wasn’t sure about swapping mine, still not sure!). If I see anymore demos pop up anywhere I’ll try and remember to message

But we already know the verdict ;)

Thanks Joey, that's the first time I've seen the double layer boot space that you get with the Bose. I called my dealer today and they again told me that there's no update and that it's currently 'September' for my PB, Bose, black roof.

Says 6.7 here

I think the UK website says 6.2, but most review sites quote the Euro stats (as they are probably left hand drive cars). It's the same with the 201/204bhp discrepancy... though I think that's more a confusion between HP and PS.
Autocar magazine's latest issue states that they managed a 6.1 second 0-60mph

@JoeyPropane Ohh that's strange, I'd have thought it would be the same. I hadn't seen the 6.7 sec thing.

@grimmy58 I wouldn't be surprised if it comes in under what they quote, the i30N people were allegedly about to do 0-62 quite a bit faster than the 6.1sec...how much of that is talk though I don' know 😂

Update from dealer this morning, expecting the car mid to late Sept. I get the feeling that most of our cars are going to turn up at the same time and the forum will explode with pictures 🤣

‘update from the dealer’ actually means ‘I rang them because I’m too impatient’ 😂

This is because two ships are due to dock at Tilbury mid sept. Glovis Sun and the Platinum Ray. Both which will pickup i20/i20Ns from HAOS in Turkey very soon.

Interesting 🙂

There’s a couple of UK garages with i20Ns in stock (red, black and PB) but they all seem to be no black roof and no Bose. Looks like everyone’s speccd the options 🤣
