i20N - Reviews, General Discussion & Info

The consensus is that it is not the optimal oil in a climate zone that does not have low or very low temperatures all year round. Especially when it concerns more powerful cars used as intended and / or regularly moving at high speed on highways for a long time.

Time will tell if these motors will last longer than the end of the warranty. My i20N engine will run 0w30 and after modifications (Stage 1) 0w40 oil.

Maybe we need to open a oil discussion thread after all.
If the "general consensus" is various forums where people with partial knowledge or empirical understanding from technologies used decades ago , rather than reliable sources based on the science it should be the way to reach conclusions.

The engine needs lubrication in two conditions : when it's 'cold' at the startup and when it is at the operational temperatures.
For the cold start the rule of thumb says to aim for the lowest possible grade available. If we want to be really picky here, the low grade in every oil is marked for 40oC , so trying to start the car at zero degrees with a 0w oil is generally better than a 5w but if the place the car is rarely see temperatures that low , then it doesn't makes a huge difference. The start/stop system doesn't count as 'cold starts' as most are engaged only after the engine worked for few minutes and is warmer than the ambient temperature.
When it comes to operational temperatures , is when things get messed up and wrongly understood ideas becoming advices. An engine in normal use (normal use is also sporty driving or the occasional couple rounds in a race track), brings the engine to it's expected operational temperature which is around 100oC or a bit more. That's valid regardless if outside ambient temperature is 10oC , 30oC or 50oC , the car is practically a sealed system maintaining that desire operational temperature. The engine was designed and tested to run with specific grade of oil for that.
Let's assume that we want to challenge that , we don't trust the car company and we believe it's done only to present that itsy-bitsy slight fuel economy a lighter oil will give. Who can give reliable inputs that running a different grade of oil is better for that specific car and that specific engine ? Unless a car was run with the different grade of oil for 100k+ or 7-10 years , it's engine was dissembled ,checked and proven that had less wear , then I don't see how someone, anyone can claim that they know better that the company who build it and tested it in the freezing winters or the dessert heat in order to be able to give their 5-7-10 years warranties.

Tuning and do race events is a completely different story and each can consider their best knowledge or assumptions - I said that before. When it comes to normal use, long term reliability most people should really follow what is advised by the manufacturer the rest of us should avoid simple statement of dismissals that can confused owners or make them do something that can eventually hurt them.

Lastly, I hope that I don't sound too critical or harsh , I don't intent to insult anyone but I can't find a softer way to explain what I wanted to say and stress out how we should provide advice and opinion for various matters.

I also drive a FiST atm and trading it in for the i20N in about 3 weeks when my order arrives :)

Already test drove a few times (as i work for a Hyundai dealer). Acceleration is pretty the same. 0-140 the i20N is a bit quicker (like 1s), while 140-200 the FiST turns out to bit a bit quicker.

0-100 i did 6,27 in the i20N, while 6,81 in my FiST.

100-200 19,91 in the i20N and 19,55 in my FiST.

But only done with Speed Logic as i dont have a dragy Box. Suspension feels about the same. Cornering is significantly better in the i20N. Seats i like the ST3 Recaro more.
Hi, congratulations on your new car!
Which seat goes the lowest, the i20's or the Fiestas?
Any detailed comparisons between the Fiesta and i20 would be greatly appreciated. There aren't any comparison tests out yet. Thanks!

I saw a brand new i20N at a dealership today. I liked it overall, with some minor disappointments.

The interior is roomier than the Fiesta's, but the seats aren't as supportive and the dash is more plasticky. The seating height felt roughly the same.

Three things I thought were odd:
- One of the front struts was already rusty (forgot to check the other one).
- The spring had a tag saying "Media Cars", which makes me wonder if media cars have different suspension.
- The car has no engine under tray, which isn't great for aero or cleanliness.

The STs Recaro's are a big highlight for me, awesome seats, and I don’t think you need to sit in the i20N seats to know they are not as supportive, you can just tell, the Fiesta’s interior just looks a bit more premium to me, and I hate that digital dash in the i20N, I much prefer analog, I know that’s where things are going but I’m just not a fan of them, I think the facelift FiST will probably get a digital dash which will suck if it happens, as for the media car labels, Know idea? looks dodgy tho, why would you put that there if it’s the same suspension? I smell a rat

Yeah, sitting on them just confirmed the initial visual impression (unfortunately). The Fiesta interior will age better IMO. Better seats, HVAC ergonomics (gotta love knobs for temp and fan speed!), soft-touch dash top, sweet physical dials, etc.

The i20N's exterior does look better to my eye though. It's wider and lower.
It's a tough choice as neither is perfect.

wish this color was available for the i30N ...

Does anyone know if the Android Auto / Apple Car Play work wirelessly in the I20 N?
Wireless CarPlay is not supported on the 20N. Its a shame because Hyundai announced last October any new cars would be.

Right, I thought I've heard something like that. It really is a shame. Maybe they have the hardware and it'll just need a software update? That'd be great.

That's what I have heard somewhere, that future firmware upgrade might change that and it would support wireless Auto / Apple Car play. If I am not mistaken same issue is having other manufacturers as well.

Maybe the old "microchip supply shortage on account of the virus" story.

Anyway, sold my Mini Clubman today and I'm buying an I20 N next week. Well, order one, at least.
