As many of you talk about on here tyre wear, I also need to replace my tyres on a year old car with only 11,000 miles. Lots of great advise on here but so much I'm now confused if for i20 N. So can people help from there experiences, what do I change them to? Michelin? Uniroyal? Sport? Don't want to have to change again so quickly due to wear.

Its a bit of personal preference really, we're all going to have an opinion made from past experiences or trusted reviews. For example ive switched to Michelin Pilot Sport 5s are being impressed with having 4s on my old car (with more power) from purchase and stuck with them, only opted for 225s over the 215s as at the time they were £40 cheaper per tyre AND available the next day instead of a month wait.

My last I20N had 225 Goodyears ASY6 fitted and compared to the standard Pirellis they were great - car lost all the low (parking speed) noises/ wheel hop and the car felt more refined on the commute.

My current I20N has Michelin cross climates (215s) fitted by previous owner at 3000 miles and they don't feel bad at all considering they're an all season tyre- no wheel hop or noises. I haven't done the B road blasts so not sure how they'd cope on the twisties but at least i should be ok for the soon to be winter months ;)

Hi sarahb74 I sympathise with you I have had two sets of pirelli p zeros fitted to the front of my i20N and left frustrated at how long they lasted.
So for my third set of tyres I fitted some Michelin pilot sport 5'S.
I can confirm they last a lot longer than the pirelli p zeros, in fact they have done roughly 5000miles.
And still look new.
SO Pleased, as I was thinking I would have to sell the car due to this issue.
Hope this helps.

Yes goos to hear as that is what I went with after much debate. Like a new car.

I swapped out my front tyres for Michelin PS4's this morning and from my initial short drive the difference is night and day. No wheel hop turning off my driveway and so much quieter when cold. I've only done around 20 miles so far but there's a couple of places where the turns are very tight and the noise and sensation was very evident on the Pirellis. The PS4's appear to have reduced this to barely noticeable or even eliminated it entirely. I need to put a few more miles in before I can say its gone completely.

For info, the Pirelli's lasted for approx. 18 months and 12600 miles but were pretty much like slicks when I had them changed 😱 (I forgot to take a photo!). The rears have still got a bit of life in them but I'll change them when I have some time off nearer Christmas to match the fronts.

Nice to hear about your new tyres.
I'm amazed you got 12600miles out of your pirelli's .
I managed only 5 to 6000 out of mine.

What can I say, I'm a very conservative driver :D . I have rotated them a few times but to be honest they were well past their best and should probably have been changed a few months back.

A few more miles in and I am amazed how the hop has disappeared 👍.

Can't go wrong with Michelin PS5. Its crazy how much cheaper it is if you get them in 225 vs 215.

For me, you feel less bump on the road. At the time when I change mine, there were so many pot holes popping up everywhere 😄

If you drive a lot on cold mornings, they just have no life in them. They just don't work at all in colder temperatures and when cold in general.

On topic of what tyre. I personally am looking at Michelin Pilot Sport 5 cause I really don't care if the car lost slight bit of grip in the extreme conditions.

But I think the go-to sportier tyre nowdays is Continental SportContact 7.

I would definitely recommend the pilot sport 5 tyre I'm really impressed with mine they've got good grip and great longevity so far.

Interesting that you say the go to tyre is sportcontact 7 might give they a go next.

I have just changed to the Continental Sport Contact 7 to replace front Pirelli’s that lasted 9k miles. Can confirm that there is also no low speed judder on these either.
Cannot comment yet on wear or performance as weather has not allowed any form of testing on a dry surface since they were fitted.

I'm thinking of giving Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE003 XL's a whirl.

I've had RE003's on mine for 9 months and clocked about 6,000kms on them. They are 225/40-18 and cost AU$935 fitted. The stock tyres lasted almost 15,000km.

The RE003's Have been a good improvement with better suspension compliance and good feel in corners. I have Michelin PS4S on my i30N sedan but feel the RE003's give more raw feedback when they're loaded in a corner which I like and suits the i20N. I would probably fit them to the i30N too unless there's a better choice at that time?

Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 tyre is Size 215/40 18Y.

They have an all terrain, all season rating and Tread, so a true rally car tyre.

The original tyres are summer and perfect tarmac only. And with uk weather and pot holes etc, uk roads are no perfect race track...

In uk these tyres have a 20k mileage guarantee! And other offers at kwik fit..

I wouldn't use originals again...

i'm not a fan of potenzas. on my other car i found they have shorter lifespan and arent great in the cold.

I was looking at PS5 as i think PS4S are overkill for me, but i think GY-asymm6 might compare well to PS5 on most metrics and will work out better value for me.

I can't speak for the accuracy of this chart without personal exposure to both, but slightly less lifetime and being just behind on aquaplaning likely wont factor in for me, and they seem very good on the other metrics inc price. Happy to hear if anyone else can comment on if this chart seems accurate enough (tire review sites can potentially subjective or biased).

I have to come back in defence of the RE003's. I also had them fitted to my Yeti[2L TDI DSG 4x4] and they were every bit as good as the Michelin PS4's they replaced but with more feel. It's not as cold in Australia but we still get cold crisp mornings in the winter and I never found them lacking. They also lasted very well.

That's fine if you like the bridgstones (you also had the advantage of 4x4), I found them great when new, but i doubt i'll buy them again.

I had eagle F1s some years ago and really liked them. I've also run the PS4 and RE003 more recently. None of these were on i20N, they were between SSS pulsar and Cerato (both 2.0L front driven).

To expand on my earlier comment, I replaced the RE003 earlier than their rated KM because they felt worn out (especially in AU-NSW winter mornings with lacking front wheel traction) despite still having tread depth to spare.

I replaced them with PS4. I'm sticking with my choice between PS5 and asymm6 for the next set on the i20N (based on deals at the time), and am hoping they fare better once they enter their mid-life KM than my experience with the Potenzas.
