Suspension and Chassis Powerflex Lower Torque Mount

Note that there is also a bushing at the other end of the mount that Powerflex do a replacement for.
Yes, but as long as I gain some improvement with just fitting the yellow buffers I will be happy(ier)!

I notice they seem to do replacements for most of the "rubberised" bushings and mounts on the vehicle but I would think if you went "full monty" and replaced the lot then the increase in NVH would be unbearable, at least for road use?

The risk is, I assume, that by replacing some you might increase the stress on some of the other OEM fittings?

Well, just had the yellow bushes fitted, seemed to be a bit difficult to get the end plate torqued up whilst keeping everything aligned but with the arm in a vice and a large adjustable holding the end cap plate all accomplished.

Took the long way home, in N mode of course, and did not notice any extra NVH at all and I must say it feels just a bit "tighter" and responsive. Tried a couple of WOT, from low speed, where possible and no wheel hop at all - definitely a huge improvement it seems. I was surprised how soft and squidgy the OEM bushes are!

Just the tyres to change now - the Pirellis at 3 degrees ambient this morning, backing off the drive and then using the turning bay, were making horrendous noises, worst I have ever experienced. Even my mechanic made some derogatory comments having manoeuvred the car in and out of the service bay.

The wheel hop and the skipping on maximum lock are different things. The wheel hop only happens when you are setting off quickly from a standstill.

Absolutely, although I was getting axle tramp even during hard acceleration up to and including 3rd gear on our crappy Somerset Tarmac - that has all disappeared with the yellow bushes fitted - have not had occasion to try from a standing start yet:cool:

Talking of yellow bushes, maybe wishful thinking, but I seem to be getting much less torque steer when "making progress" since these were fitted? I tried it today on a section of road I know very well which has lots of short undulations in the surface and normally I have to keep a very strong grip on the wheel and take lots of corrective action whereas today it seemed to be fighting me much less? Perhaps because to sun was out!

Still not got to the point of fitting a set of tyres yet, a bit too much tread left on the P Zeros at 6k to chuck them out, but I may well go for the GY Eagle F1 Assym 6 when the time comes - any thoughts or experience?

Well I’m running the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 and am very happy with them. Every tyre is a compromise but these are a good blend of sporty and every day. A bit less sharp into the corner but still good - slightly quieter and better over poor road surfaces - less crashy. The P zeros are super pointy but in every other way the Goodyears are better and they still turn in well.

Regarding torque steer - well there are quite a few mods on my car but I would say torque steer is very well controlled. Having said that I’m from a rear wheel drive experience so it’s heavy braking on the entrance to a corner then fast out.

Thanks for your thoughts on the F1s, they sound like they will do the job. Presumably the slightly wider 19" version I need for the Kona will obtain similar results.

I mostly have had FWD cars except the 2 immediately prior to the Kona N - both were RWD Mercs - and I probably would still have the SLC200 were it not for a dodgy hip although I am not regretting changing to the Kona one bit, apart from the roof does not fold down into the boot!

As far as "fast out" of a corner is concerned that is probably the one thing that always makes me grin when the LSD drags you tighter around the corner and then launches into the straight - amazing fun!

Well that would be a miracle wouldn't it!

Just a shame Powerflex did not make them all in black with just some subtle coding on to differentiate the grades and no one would even notice - Canary yellow just a bit obvious!

They do make a hell of a difference though so I will let them off.

I take it you have postponed your plans to revert to 4WD then?

Forgot to ask - are your F1s XL rated?

I can only seem to find XL versions but I note the Pirelli fitted are not?

Hello everyone. Sorry for my English, which is from google translate. I have a Hyundai Kona N. Today I installed the yellow powerflex mount and there is a huge difference. With Dunlop Sport 5 winter tires I no longer have wheel skipping.

Hello and welcome.

Well, if you had not said we probably would not have known about the Google translate!

Yes, the yellow bushes seem to do a good job, the only thing I have noticed is a bit more feel of the engine "twitch" on start up and shut down.

I have almost no NVH. Only when accelerating gently, when I change gears up (1500-2100 rpm), I can hear the sounds of the gearbox working or moving on the powerflex mounting. It doesn't bother me because I don't usually drive like that. Now the feel of the car is better when I accelerate hard and when I brake with gears. In sports modes, it's better to 'kick in the back'.

I would say that 1500 to 2100rpm is quite a low range to be changing up gear!

I am considering to get the Yellow PowerFlex for my i30N
How is everyone's experienc with them??
Some of the friends I know said that the OEM are suited for Normal driving, and that the stiffer ones may break other parts more often then they should.
Not sure this myth is true but gonna ask to be safe then sorry.
Someone even suggested the Purple PowerFlex (I think that ones even stiffer)
Do let me know what you all think.

I ran purple Powerflex bushings in the lower torque mount for eighteen months and experienced no problems at all. I’ve now changed all the engine mounts to Powerflex black series and still have no problems (there is a lot more vibration with the black though).

From the PowerFlex site the Yellow is upgraded,Purple for a mix of daily and track and Black for full on Racing.
I consider the Yellow one for the lower engine mount (should have wrote what mount),the others might rattel the other components bit too much for my taste.
