I'm curious, did you ask or did Courtenay offer any further details or explanation of possible/probable cause for your bricked ECU?

Oh yes we had much conversation of this issue but none of us are currently any the wiser. What Jon did tell me was a story of an Astra (this happened some years ago when that ECU was not fully cracked). As you may be aware, modern cars (like ones PC) do many behind the scenes checks on various systems. In the case of the Astra, mid upload of the map, the car ‘thought’ it would be a good time to run its check of the ABS system And this caused the upload to be terminally corrupted. In the case of the i20N the key problem is that the ECU has only been partially cracked and all It’s systems are not fully laid out. I have also learned that there are a number of competing systems that can be used to access a cars ECU and how well ‘sorted’ these systems are varies. For example, at least one claims OBD compatibility but this is just incorrect and that software does not give access to the ECU via the OBD port (as it claims it does). Courtenay can use two different software suppliers and they used one on my first EVU and the other on its replacement. Whether this first software was instrumental in causing the issue we don’t know.
This could have been an extremely stressful experience but Courtenay Sport were genuinely fantastic. Their willingness to take ownership and sort out the problem was beyond reproach and so was their communication. Unexpected and random stuff happens to everybody, it’s how it is then dealt with that is the testament to a companies worth.
 
I was driving recently and noticed that the revs now, since the ECU tune, behave quite differently when changing gear. when changing gear they now drop and take up again vastly quicker - just like a car with a cable controlled throttle - so there is now zero Rev hang. For me this makes no difference at all as to how the car drives but the whole issue of Rev hang has been a major issue for some.
 
To chime in on this thread, I was also lead to believe there are subtle differences (part numbers) on the ECU from the very first i20n's to the later ones. This possibly could just relate to the software though.

I have never noticed any rev hang mine is a 2023 model, I do frequently use the rev matching I love how much smoother gear changes are !!

I have a 23 model and that was one of the first thing I noticed was the way the revs hanged. Lesser in N mode but still there. I suppose it’s what you get used to. Previous car was a 2016 Ibiza and revs dropped very quickly on that.
