Currently drive a 1 Series 120d and averaging 50mpg, i reallllly want a i30N but seeing that people average 20mpg on normal journeys/b roads etc. Is this true?

For a 2L Engine the L/100 or MPG is very high. The car is sucking the fueltank empty like sh.. Yea its high, but there is some fun behind that.

Not sure if its the right decision for me to get a 130i then, 22 years old living at home and need to save to move out, not a good purchase then?

The i30N/Veloster is a car for having fun. Yea its sucking the fuel like crazy and yea its costs money.

The question is how much the 130i costs and what you save on money against the i30N/Veloster.
In cases of warranty issues, the Hyundai should be better.

No its not then IMO.

I get just under 30mpg / 300 miles to a tank. Thats just driving to work and back without any sprinted driving or n mode or rev matching on. On a long run i got nearly 46mpg but around town sub 25.

They are not a car for mpg

Any performance car will have, lets say a noticeably reduced fuel economy, stands to reason. As you don't buy them for their fuel efficiency. My 12 year old 2lt Mazda 3 gets about 550-600km per tank before I re-fill, that has a 55lt tank.

I get 20 MPG and 280-300 miles per tank. It may be 50 litres but only about 40 is usable. I drive aggressively and don't look at the mpg. Can't imagine it can get any worse than that unless you live on the track.

If you are worried about MPG you shouldn't get the N (in my opinion). You'll end up not enjoying the car because you'll be worried about the fuel consumption (I speak from past experience). Get a car you're comfortable with. The 130i is a good choice because it can be fun in the corners while being light on the wallet in terms of fuel. Get it with rear wheel drive so you can drif....uhm......correct unintentional oversteer.....often :D

The N has the worst fuel economy of all hatches I previously owned. But, it gives the most smiles per liter. 😄 That is what matters the most in such a car for me.
