Hey all.

I was trying to do a downpipe install over the weekend and failed miserably haha.

Just wondering if anyone has any tips accessing the bottom left downpipe bolt where it attaches to the turbo (as pictured)?

It felt like it had some sort of lock tight on it and the stud actually began to unscrew from the turbo with the nut.

There was barely any access and I ended up breaking the seal on the cluth/brake fluid reservoir leaking some brake fluid just trying to move the tools around once the nut started to move off the stud.

Was able to get everything else off from on top and underneath the car quite easily but this one bolt defeated me. Had to bolt everything back on and pack up for the day. I'm probably going to end up taking it to a shop but thought I'd ask here anyway in the interest of learning.

Could you possibly send any links? I could really only find the sixth element one which was demonstrated on a left hand drive veloster n.

Whats the brand of the DP?

It’s an Australian company. Dynomotive.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Jajodu, I definitely utilised the google search engine before enquiring here to try and find some of the videos you were talking about. I was just looking for a particular example of someone actually unscrewing that bolt so I can maybe see how they set up the ratchet/swivel etc and worked around the reservoir and brake lines.

Anyway I do have an update. I took my car to a workshop who ended up stuck on the same section. They ended up dropping the subframe to gain access from underneath the car. They still couldn’t get that nut off easily so they ended up cross threading the stud in the process of removing the nut.

So I just thought I’d upgrade the turbo since the subframe was out and they’d have to remove the turbo and drill out the stud to repair everything.

Funny the power of one stud.

It all went okay but is it normal to hear some kind of rattle noise with a downpipe installed? stock exhaust
It could be multiple things. If it’s coming from behind the car, I’d say that’s probably your valve spring. You can grab a reinforced valve spring to fix that. If it’s coming from the engine bay, it might be your charge pipe rattling against the bell housing if it hasn’t been mounted properly. That’s what happened to my car when they swapped the turbo and charge pipe. When does the rattling happen? Is it loud or more subtle ?

The noise seems to be coming from the front of the car, the downpipe and boost pipe were installed at the intercooler on the same day. This high-pitched rattle occurs only when giving the car a little gas, before the turbo pressure kicks in. Once the turbo pressure is present, the car sounds normal again.

This is the exact same problem that I'm having with my car. I'm pretty sure its your charge pipe. I'm getting my car looked at on the 20th at Cherry Tuning. I'll report back on how it was fixed.

Okay, I'm very curious!
But I'm also curious why you think it's the boostpipe. I can't find a logical explanation for it myself.

Hey dude. Cars been in the shop for a few weeks. I’ll let you know about that rattle when I pick it up. I believe it might be a heat shield or something. Will confirm in a week or so

Thank you.
i found out it may be this (see picture) There is some kind of mesh over the flex pipe section, and I suspect that it might also be making noise.

They are excellent! Tristan is very knowledgeable and they are very friendly and helpful. The tune itself is quite bespoke. They’ll give you a form to fill out before you go in. Also I’d do the spark plugs before you get it tuned 👍
